Sceptre Of Na-ochiixid

Our sceptre was a symbol of our right to rule this nation, given to us by the Divinities themselves. If we could just find out where the damned thing is, we would be able to retake what's rightfully ours.
— Heir to the Na-ochii Kings
The royal sceptre of Na-ochiixid was an artefact belonging to the old Na-ochii Kings who used to rule that country. Once used in coronation ceremonies, it has been missing since The Collision, with many parties accused of having stolen or sold it.

Description

This sceptre was unique amongst its contemporaries, being carved not from precious metals, but from a single large Dragon Bone. This large bone was engraved with many patterns, and inset with rare gemstones all throughout, especially in the dragon's head carved into the top. It was also unusually large, at approximately 2 metres tall.

History

The royal sceptre is believed to have been made some time in the Era of Redemption, by the orders of the first Na-ochii King. Due to his staggering height, he ordered it be made twice as tall as those of his contemporaries. It was first used ceremonially at his "coronation", which he held to celebrate his conquest of a swathe of neighbouring kingdoms.   Its towering size was initially no problem for the Kings, who were unusually tall for the time. However, as time went on, the sceptre began to dwarf the newly crowned. This caused particular trouble for King Üchlavis III, whose short stature and weak arms led to him dropping the sceptre during his coronation, breaking his son's leg. After this incident, the sceptre was no longer handed over to the new monarch during the ceremony, instead being rested on a table for the king to lay his hand on when swearing his oath to the Na-ochayo people.   The sceptre was further downgraded when later Kings decided to have smaller replicas crafted, making the use of the original in the ceremony obsolete. It was then moved into the royal archives in a secret location, and only rarely brought out for any kind of ritual. Its last known use was in 6 Thawing, at the funeral of the so-called Warrior King, Üchlavis X.   It went missing in the wake of The Collision, with no-one quite sure about its whereabouts. Efforts were made by the Na-ochii Kings to locate it, however they were overthrown and massacred before any serious efforts could take place.

Provenance

While the sceptre indisputably existed, whether it was actually made from dragon bone is less clear. The Na-ochii Kings claimed it was made from a single bone, but this seems unlikely due to its collosal size and the lack of evidence that a large dragon was killed at the time the sceptre first appeared.   It may have been made from a few bones attached together, or from a silver compound painted to mimic bone. Notably, all replicas made of the sceptre by later kings were made of silver.

'... dropping the sceptre during his coronation, breaking his son's leg.' Oh no, how embarrassing!   I really like the idea of the sceptre, and the doubt whether it's actually made of dragon bone or not!
