Justice Character in Tiyu Amara | World Anvil

Justice

That's the thing about the Divinities. All powerful, all knowing, but not ever present. Hell, I've met someone who was bound to Justice, technically spoke to them myself, and even with their presence I'd wager many injustices occurred around us. It's not about guaranteeing the outcome. It's about being a point you can turn to and ask "Why?"
Justice is the name for the Divinity of the same domain, as well as over the sub-domains of Vengeance and Mercy. They are one of the 4 primary aspects of The Mother, and one commonly worshipped throughout Tiyu Amara. They are the patron deity of many communities and countries, such as the Vosti Empire and Ettioril.

History

As with the other aspects of The Mother, Justice has existed since before any of the mortal races walked the land. After She had created the various worlds, such as Tiyu Amara and Tiyu Noha, She split herself into the 4 aspects who would craft the land and watch it in Her stead. Justice, as one of these "Singularities", is supposedly responsible for ensuring an equitable distribution of resources throughout the worlds.   At some point, Justice followed the lead of the other Singularities and split themself further into the elements of Vengeance and Mercy, to allow for a greater ability to survey the world and see that their will is carried out. The original deity still exists, and is said to have specifically appeared in Tiyu Amara on a few occasions via divine contracts.

Known/Supposed Notable Interventions

Krenar

In a common Vosti myth, a dragon of continental scale terrorised the people of Abravost. Justice came down to grant their power to a select few warriors, who were able to slay Krenar at the cost of their own lives. The Divinity then revived the warriors using the dragon's blood, creating the first of the Vosti people.

Jrinta

As the country of Dyiiladuun in Thurásin excavated dragon bones from their peninsula, Justice and fellow Divinity Balance both formed pacts to intervene. Despite their efforts, they were unable to prevent the vengeful awakening of the dragon Jrinta, and more pacts were formed to slay the dragon, in a strange parallel to the Krenar myth.

Koshi

Kidnapped by a group of mages and necromancers, teenager Koshi Varmand was allegedly 'sacrificed' in an attempt to contact the Divinity of Change. Instead, contact was made to Justice, who formed a pact with Koshi to enable her escape, which went somewhat disastrously. Unlike the other examples, her pact has lasted years.

Worship

Given the importance of justice as a concept, the titular divinity is widely worshipped throughout Tiyu Amara. Those in unjust situations will offer prayers to the god in hopes of their intervention, and those charged with enforcing law will often pledge to "embody" the god in their work. Some are particularly dedicated to the concept, and will measure their behaviour by how just it is, and perform public acts of penance when they feel they have acted out of line.

Even so, it's hard to stomach. Are we to take a god's inaction as an endorsement of the status quo? Am I, then, to believe that my childhood was just? That, perhaps, I was a target of a divine vengeance, wrought by those around me?   I can't accept that.

Fallibility

While the gods are contactable, their whims are inscrutable by mortals. As such, it's not clear what Justice's metrics for judgement are, and what prompts them to act in some situations and not in others.   It's also hard to ascribe a singular 'personality' to the Divinities, as it is known that they manifest differently between different cultures and individuals. While there may be a divine form of 'justice', the god's actions are likely influenced by the morality of those around them.   That would make the gods just as fallible as mortals, and just as prone to errors of judgement. Due to the nature of their domain, Justice is perhaps more prone to this than most.
