For thousands of years the sun has been still in the sky, many of the young races believe it has always been like that. Life is hard, people join together in communities around sources of water but fighting is becoming more common. The continent of Airux spans from the hottest region to the west all the way to the dark and beyond. Life stays out of the dead wastes but also stay well away from the night.   History tells of an ancient race of high elves which used to rule the continent with incredible magic back when the sun still moved. These “Old Ones” used to be in constant war with the creatures of the dark. Every time the dark of night came they would battle for survival, until one day they stopped the night from coming. During this act, or sometime after there was a calamity and this civilisation disappeared. All that remains is the magic items and buildings they left behind, some of which are still guarded by powerful constructs. Currently the light side of the continent of Airux is controlled mainly by The Empire of light, this empire is run by an holy eternal emperor who controls the region from his temple in the capital. Most major cities and the surrounding areas are controlled by barons who provide tribute to the capital.   As for the dark side of the continent, nobody can tell you what is there, anybody who tells you they have visited there is lieing or mad. Brutal creatures live in the dark, if they don’t kill you the cold will.   The party finds itself working a job as caravan guards going towards the City of Brine, a city build next to a huge salt lake. This city borders the dead wastes, the only reason it's still here is due to leftover magical devices from the Old Ones which are able to get fresh water from the salt lake. These machines dribble out water which is collected and then sold to the population, by the scale of these devices they once unleashed torrents of water. The city is mainly slums surrounding the walled rich part of the city which contains these devices.
