Plastisea

The Great Plastisea is a vast continent of floating plastic detritus. The name 'sea' is a relic from ancient times when it was more like an island of garbage floating in an actual ocean. Now, there are very few places where actual water is visible from the surface. The shores of the plastisea blend mostly seemlessly with the surrounding land at polychromatic shorelines buried in the refuse of a thousand years. The flotsom is hundreds of feet thick in other places. A biome of mutant plants and fungi has taken root on top, and underneath strange fish live amongst the artificial reef. There are a some settlements, both on the surface, and penetrating through to the polluted depths beneath. These include mining operations... The entire landscape is subject to wave activity and also the tides.
