Citizens of Chamber

With the storm still raging outside, the merest hint of dawn began to creep onto the screens of Chamber. Single people began to wonder from their dwellings, then more and more until it seemed the entirety of the city was in motion. It was a surprising riot of color, but not without certain patterns appearing. It seems that the norm for clothing among the citizens was a type of long sleeveless tunic with a loose fitting pants that should be very utilitarian to work in. A type of long sash was used as a belt to which a variety of bags or pouches were attached. There was no regard for sex. Everyone wore the same style of clothing, but it became apparent as Master Anette and I took the long stairs down to into the city proper that there a number of intricate differences between them. The people who left to work the agricultural ring all had single, brightly colored tunics and largely single dark color pants with heavy work boots. The people working in the crafting ring had slightly more embellishment on their tunics, either two colors or some form of embroidery on. Deeper down I began to glimpse signs of almost garish colors and overly elaborate decorations on the tunics of some in the Court mingling with very reserved colors and more tasteful embroidery. I'm sure that the this was the difference between the nobles and the bureaucrats of the Court. Besides the dress style, there were two other things that seemed in ubiquitous abundance in Chamber. Nearly everyone was wearing a variety of necklaces and charmed bracelets and absolutely everyone had intricate arm tattoos. Upon inquiring to Master Anette as to the significance of these things she informed me that the jewelry were talismans against the ghosts that were thought to still haunt the mountain from the Bleak Night, and the tattoos were a public display of who you were. The right arm tattoos contained the work you did, who you worked for, and your marital and social status while the left arm was dedicated to what you loved, personal flair and art, or major events a person wished to commemorate. The designs on the right arm tended toward the geometric and solid colors, easily identifiable by those able to discern them. The left arms were wildly varied, in style, color, and subject, allowing true freedom to be expressed by the person wearing them. Further observation showed that the way they styled hair was fairly uniform, short and easily maintained. There were a few exceptions here and there, long but still pulled in braids and ready for a day's work. I have noticed that everyone I have come in contact with has not shied away from my Master and I, which is uncommon in other cities. It is strange. I attribute this to the air of distracted tiredness I see in so many faces. In fact, over the course of the day I have discovered that the entire population seems to work or be active from sunup to sunset. I have never seen this kind of dedication to work in another city without significant anger from the population that boils over in time. All I see here is a happy people perfecting their craft and serving their city. Perhaps there is more to study in these people than initially appeared. I intend to delve into their work philosophy over my time here to see what I can glean.
