Turok's Back
Once the fallen corpse of a Headless God, Turok's Back is the largest and tallest mountain range in all of Thern. Its highest peak, Starbreaker, reaches further than Tassuru into the sky. Approximately 83 kilometers high, for eons it was thought there was no end to its climb, and that it was a bridge to the stars. In the time of Thern, it is more or less a tourist attraction for Tassurans, as the climb is much easier from the city level. Most fae and okun do not require oxygen, and can climb this mountain without any supplies besides food and water. Humans, of course, must prepare as if they were going into space, putting on suits to retain pressure and oxygen.
Geography
A massive mountain range that gradually builds to an even more massive mountain peak. The range crowns the Kereth Peninsula, a thriving piece of land covered in sacred forests, jungles, and one desert. Its foothills touch the Crescent Sea in the form of fjords, giving outlets to the rivers running from the great lakes West of the peaks.
Fauna & Flora
Forests grow at the mountains' roots, but soon ice and snow and bare rock are all that exist on these peaks. The forests, known as the Great Okung Forest, are populated by the most powerful tribes of okun. The forest is sacred to them, as well as all of its creatures. Okun photosynthesize, and do not consume anything that isn't nutrients from the earth, water, or sunlight. One would be wise not to defile their lands, or anger Skong, God of Okun...
As for the animals living among the foothills and parts of the mountains, a species of algoat travel higher than most would expect. Their six-hooves are very agile and sure-footed in climbing the steep rock faces. Beyond them are various kinds of birds and airborne lizards, all of which imitate the mountains' most infamous inhabitants, the drakes. Drakes are a lesser form of dragon, having large heads, two legs, and wings that can glide at best. They are known for their gluttony, stuffing their bellies until they are bulbous and immobile. They often will feast on the algoats until they are too fat to move, and then starve until they are small enough to move again. The weaker of the drakes can be seen as completely starved beasts, skeletal in their frame. They are not too intelligent, the drakes, and have been recorded to eat rocks at times, if they mistake them as prey.
Natural Resources
3 known great lakes lie on the Western side of the mountain range. A few rivers run down from them, with a small mountain lake on Starbreaker that is fabled to grant eternal life. No one has ever found this lake, though, and few now believe it ever existed.
Iron, some gold, and a wide variety of crystal lie within the mountains. Most iron is buried deep in the foothills, with the gold and crystals even deeper. A certain type of crystal, known as erntear, can provide a near infinite source of magic. Prolonged use of erntear, however, may bring madness and even forms of cancer if not used correctly.
The pines surrounding the mountains are a part of the Great Okrung Forest, and are protected vehemently by the okun tribes still living on the surface. Those who cross these okun are subjected to the Gauntlet, a nearly impossible set of challenges intended to bring unending pain and despair to those forced to face it.
