Mahkari

The controlled form of magic, mahkari is used to fuel nearly every aspect of Tassuran life. With the Akishina being the sole producer and regulator of the cerulean energy, Tassuru uses it to make food, clothing, shelter, technology, medicine, and so much more. It is the main reason why Tassuru exists in a state nearing harmony. The only thing holding it back from feeding the hungry and housing the homeless is that it takes a lot of time to harness raw magic into mahkari. For every 1 eK (measure of magic by energy supplied, i.e. 1 eK = 5 loaves of bread), it takes 3 days to produce. This means the Akishina need money to operate their harness (machine that harnesses magic into mahkari), and for those parts of the city that cannot afford to pay, the Akishina gives no mahkari. This has created great disparity among the human society, while affecting the fae and okun little. The fae and okun do not need mahkari, as long as they reside in their respective courts and territories. They have their own sustained magic to keep them practically immortal until they step into the outside world. Mahkari is coveted by humans and exiled fae and okun, pushing them towards desperate measures... criminal measures. Many have died for mahkari, and many more will still.

Utility

By using a converter, mahkari can be transformed into anything. Most of it is used for basic needs, such as food, water, clothing, and shelter, but a good portion is used to power entertainment systems, carnival rides, drugs, and nefarious machines and weapons. Some convert small amounts of mahkari into a drug form, derived as mahak. Mahak is a widespread problem among the impoverished, due to its fiercely psychological addictive nature.

Manufacturing

A harness is administered an amount of pure magic by an adept mage, at a rate that does not endanger the mage's magical stability. The harness focuses a microcosm void, which is to say it creates a localized vacuum bound within its chambers. It is no ordinary vacuum, however, as a magical component in its system pulls out signature elements that make the magic a part of Thern's universe. After these elements are removed, "empty" elements made by another magical component are put in place, giving the magic a new signature. This makes the vacuum into a void, which is its own universe for the magic to exist in. The elements are called empty because they have neutral value, directing the magic to become docile and, well, neutralized. This is a long and tedious process, especially during the first elemental extraction phase. Any wrong calculation may cause catastrophe to reality itself.
Inventor(s)
Dr. Hotaru Akishina
Access & Availability
Available for 70% of Tassurans that are not of the fae courts or okun territories. For as long as the districts of the city and their respective representatives can afford to pay the Akishina Clan, mahkari is available. Still, many go without.
Complexity
Merely raw magic in a specialized microcosm void chamber, bringing equilibrium to its volatile state. It appears in capsules of varying sizes, blue at its center and vantablack on its edges.
Discovery
An ancestor of the Akishina was well versed in nuclear science and thermodynamics, and thus studied magic until he could apply his knowledge and technology to harness magic into mahkari.
