The Pantheon (SC'20)

Written by Steve Tremblay

In Theria, the highest level of law and order is not planet-bound but godly. The deities in any fantasy campaign and vital to the world's ability to thrive or have horrors befall the land.   The "world" that Theria is set in is no different. However, the current version of Theria is far from the first. The world is more like a science experiment being performed by 10 very powerful beings who each have input and control over some facet of its creation. When a 'new' Theria has been restarted following some apocalyptic scenario (possibly happening very soon on the Dungeons and Randomness podcast, Arc 3 episodes 25+) the gods will sit down, discuss what did and didn't work and find a refresh point as if reloading from a backup.
"Did these creatures from the last version work?"
"What year do we want to start at?"
Hundreds of years ago, in an act of hubris so great it will be studied until the end of time, the High Elves in the land decided that THEY were the ultimate power and trapped the gods away in mortal bodies for at least 100 years.
Immortal and immeasurable power is hard to contain and one of the former deities started to recall who they used to be. They worked for decades bound in human form in a distant swamp until a group of adventurers came for help and struck a deal to release the gods from their prison. This was successful and since then, they have been trying to restore some of the lost order and wrangle the chaos that had run free on the world.   One thing that is always true, that no matter if they start from scratch or 1000 years into the last experiment, demons always show up. The Gods have been trying to solve the demon problem for millennia but they are always there, always trying to escape from the prison they have been held in to run amok in the surface world.   This is the rule of law that the Gods hold as the final line. If the demons fully escape and the demon lords gain the power they seek, they could potentially wrestle control from the Gods themselves and at that point we are not sure order can ever be restored.   The demon war may be coming soon...stay tuned and pray that the Pantheon has chosen its heroes wisely.
