The Dungeon: Part 2
General Summary
8th of Dulin
The golem, seemingly made from a solid piece of amber defends its area and attacks the party. It is defeated in short order and the group moves on to the next challenge. Entering the next phase, the party finds themselves atop a platform in a vast room with a few pillars and an obvious exit. There seems to be no floor or ceiling. Falling from any of the platforms would likely be deadly...eventually. Variis chooses to cross the room in the glider found previously with wind gusts from Nika helping his speed and loft. While being attacked by traps, Variis skillfully pilots his way across the room, eventually landing and pulling a lever that causes the platforms to connect and the rest of the group joins him on the far side. An image similar to one earlier in the dungeon appears and offers a choice: Power the gates for all time and releasing 4 new races who had been locked away, or keep things as they are. After some deliberation, all agree that releasing the races and powering the gates is better for the world and they are released from the test to assist The Royals. On arriving, they can see Faye has fallen, Mav is distraught and with little hesitation Marrek steps in to help by attempting to use Raise Dead. Faye is saved and suffers no ill effects. Marrek however is not as lucky. The damage done to him by the spell is too much for him to survive and he collapses, his teammates rushing to his side. After Marrek passes and the party begins mourning, Faye gathers he thoughts, speaks with Mav briefly and brings an item over to Marrek's body. She explains that it can allow his soul to pass safely to the afterlife rather than being claimed by a demon. She places the red gem on his chest and it begins to glow, fighting dark tendrils and eventually severing them. Marrek, it seems, will get to enjoy his afterlife full of the rewards he deserves.
