Shrouded Dark Altars

What is a Shrouded Dark Altar?

Points of home worship to the Uttermost Dark, these altars are exclusively built indoors. Each one is built with a frame draped with dark cloth, preferably enchanted silencing cloth. The frame is always large enough for a dragon to sit inside of, and thus shrouded dark altars built for Vrash can be quite large. There is typically also an object of veneration inside of the frame, the exact decision of which object being the choice of the individual creating the shrine. Carven stone of various motifs is a popular choice, as is a small bowl to evaporate a few drops of an essential oil.

Lights are never brought into a shrouded dark altar. It is utterly forbidden to intentionally illuminate the altar. This influences the design of the altar, which is often tactile rather than visual, as once installed in the shrouded dark altar it will only be interacted with by the hands of dragonkind.

Why do people build shrouded dark altars inside of their homes?

There is a famed though unproven healing potential in the worship of Uttermost Dark. People who feel they have a great need of that healing may want to pray more regularly, more privately, or with less risk of inconveniencing others than is possible by visiting the temples of Uttermost Dark to pray in the temple labyrinths.
