Summer Camp 2022 Pledge

I, pyrrha, pledge to complete as many prompts as possible, while retaining quality, creativity, and my sanity, whatever that number may be. I pledge that this will be fun, and not stressful!
Summer Camp is almost here, and I'm so excited for it! Summer Camp of 2019 was pivotal to the worldbuilding of my other world, United Britannia and Hibernia, so I'm hoping it will be for here, too!   Unfortunately, I just started a new job, and summer is the busiest time of the year, so I'm going to have to do most of my writing on the weekends/in big spurts instead of day-by-day, like I was hoping.   Happy Summer Camp 2022 to my fellow campers!

Goal

I would like Thenia to take shape in the same way UBH did when I started Summer Camp 2019; by the end of SC2019, I had the entire story plotted out (yeah, I know...it's still not written). I'd like to see the same with Thenia as well. SC gives me time to really concentrate on things I may take for granted otherwise, so I'm actually looking forward to seeing what comes from this summer!   Specifically, I'd really like to flesh out my main characters/countries more, so that all of them have distinct flavors to them instead of the sort of amorphous blob they are in my mind now.

Motivation

I'm really excited about delving into Thenia a bit more! UBH had been swirling in my mind for years, but Thenia is a more recent creature that I'm pumped to explore. So many good surprises came out of UBH during Summer Camp, so I'm thinking (hoping!) the same will happen with Thenia.

Challenge goal

I have two set goals here. First, is simply to reach the Copper goal; with my new job (and other new life things), I don't want to stress myself out too much. I'd just like to see a badge for Summer Camp!   Second (and I've done this one for 2019, I believe), I want to reach the 300 words and then be done. I give myself ONE light read-through to catch major errors, but that's it. I often get so hung up on an article that I'll agonize over it and never publish it, so having this goal means more articles gets published in my world.

Themes

It's theme time!

Expanse (Copper theme)

Thenia is READY for the expanse theme!
States: There are nine states of Thenia, and I've BARELY touched any of them. Each one is unique-ish in my mind, but I've barely differentiated, so it's time to make them each have a distinct culture.
Geography: In my humble opinion, there are some REALLY cool geographical features of Thenia that I haven't even TOUCHED. A quick list of some I'd like to tackle: the two huge deserts of Ghazeen (the Susa Desert and the Savva Desert), the three famous mountain ranges of Votha (Drake's Spine, the Bone Band, and the Darkfalls), Ghazeen's Lake Artemisia, Keshea's Lake Magnaux, the Cliffs of Morhir (Keshea), Trece Isla's Coscarra Rainforest, Kezig's Brugia Moors, Braeque's Ravenscar and Mines of Voetia, Iegalia's Starfall Forest, the Skalls of Skanzia, and then several features of Oscein (Madfrost Forest, Winterwoods, and the Range of Icecairn). Geography is one thing I'm SUPER excited to delve into!

Leadership (Silver theme)

The states of Thenia all have separate leaders, and the Thenian Society is a loosely organized group that tries to lead Thenia as a country. Each state's leader has the potential to be explored (and needs to be!), but there are also some institutional leaders I'd like to explore, including the Dracul, the Scholomance's leader, and some religious leaders, like the Most Sacred and Most Profane and the leader of the Pure and Unsullied.   Many leaders of Thenia are corrupt, so it'll be time to explore THAT particular aspect of Thenia.

Discovery (Gold theme)

There are SEVERAL geographical aspects of Thenia that are unexplored, but Thenia is full of secrets. Our friends are going to discover the difference between witches and magicians, and they will also discover qjuite a bit about themselves they may not know. (Kazza Hallow and Sarai Amira will definitely fit this bill.)

Monstrous (Diamond theme)

The monstrous aspects of Thenia are many. The governments tend to be incompetent, at best, and absolutely monstrous, at worse, so that takes a fair bit of exploring.   The magic of Thenia has some monstrous aspects as well (I've already touched on this a bit with Corruption and will explore it more with Corruption Magic). This magic is completely different than one I've done before, so I'm happy to be working on it!   Religion also plays an insiduous part in Thenia (looking at you, Pure and Unsullied) or allow monstrous things to happen (Followers of the Seven Divine and Cult of the Sacrificed). (Also I really love studying religion.)   I'm rubbing my hands together in glee; i can't wait for July!

Cultural

Religious

  • The Followers of the Seven Divine believe that their religion is the only right and correct one, but they're sitting on that...for now.
  • The Pure and Unsullied's treatment of their own is now requiring more government interference, and that makes the upper echelon angry.

Governmental

  • The only government that approves of magic is the Conclave of Magicians.
  • Some governments are becoming outright hostile towards magic users, including Keshea's and Skanzia's.

Personal

  • Witch vs. magician
  • Solomonari: who's staying forever?
  • Ethnic identities vs. Solomonari identities

Other

  • The Solomonari are halfway through their education: friends are turning into competitors/enemies.
Thenia is based on innumberable inspirations, but here is an attempt to gather them all together in one place.

My plans

Writing time

I have very little time during the week right now, so I know the majority of my writing will happen on the weekends. Sundays, especially, will be devoted to doing at least five prompts, while Saturdays will be whatever I can fit in (hopefully two). My ultimate goal is seven a week, for a total of 28 (and hopefully 31, if I can). My soft goal? 10, for a total of 2 or 3 a week. I have to be gentle with myself, since I'm going through some life changes, but writing is important to me, so I'm going to try to carve that time out for myself!

Support

I've been debating for awhile, but I think I'll open my Discord account again. I love Discord, but I've been hesitant to join this community there because I can't be on a whole lot. But I'm going to try because a writing community it so important, and also...I love reading others' stuff! How fun is it to get peeks into so many amazing worlds?!
