Centuries ago, fleeing the Great Collapse and the Grey Death, refugees from the 'lands that were' arrived in Thecs. Finding no refuge amongst the already established inhabitants, they traveled further in land. After great hardship they eventually reached the Hinterlands, a hilly and sparsely populated territory. Here they settled, founding the City of Dunhaven.   Years passed and in time Dunhaven became the leading city of the region known as Laytium, but still lived in relative obscurity to the larger world. Around 150 years ago this changed. An intellectual revolution kicked of a technological one and soon industry was booming in Laytium. This revolution brought with it a political one too. The old rulers of Dunhaven were expelled and a Commonwealth was established. Committed to a revolutionary creed, the Commonwealth of Dunhaven soon found itself engaged in a series of seemingly never ending wars, supporting fellow revolutions or putting down counter reactions. The Commonwealth was inexhaustible, buoyed by advances in technology and a seemingly never ending supply of manpower the Commonwealth again and again found itself victorious against its enemies.   The year is 316 and the Commonwealth is ascendant. A new reality dawns, whomever controls the Commonwealth, controls the world.
