Birthdays of Fuglen

The people of Fuglen celebrate birthdays twice a year, once on the actual date they were born and on the new year. Mostly populated by halflings and gnomes, the people of Fuglen are always looking for an excuse to have parties and celebrate in new ways.

History

Halflings and gnomes are always in search of a reason to gather and celebrate life, and birthdays have always been around. The actual date of a persons birth used to be celebrated in small events but have since grown into full events with in the past centuries. A persons birth date is solely centered around them.    New Years celebrations have always been cause for large parties and events, but after The Great War, many were left without families to celebrate with, or were too young to remember their own true date of birth. In an effort to unite the devastated country, the leaders of Fuglen declared New Years a birthday celebration for everyone. This was explained that the new year means rebirth for all, so no one citizen would be left without a party.

Execution

On ones day of birth, it is tradition that all attending bring a small gift and food to share. The celebrated one will give a speech filled with thanks and sometimes perform a song, dance or present their craft to their guests as a way to give back. Birthdays in Fuglen are very free form.   On the New Years celebration, it is a large gathering of people within a town square or public place that can hold all the citizens in the surrounding area. Food, merriment, singing, dancing, gifts for all, and of course the consumption of left over Napple Pies!

Components and tools

Upon arriving at a birthday in Fuglen, all the guests are asked to write a less than pleasing characteristic about the birthday person on a stick. After the person is finished with their speech, they are beaten with the stick. While violent and rude, this is seen as a metaphor of beating the bad out of the celebrated person and letting them grow within the next year. These characteristics could be anything from “messy” to “owns me thousands of dollars”. It’s usually done with love...

Participants

On the date of birth, the festivities are reserved for the persons closest family and friends, ranging from 50-150 attendants.   During the New Years Celebrations, every humanoid, young, old and ancient celebrate as a unit with drinks, food, and activities.
