The Thrainish Inquisition

Culture

While open and accepting to most of the general public, the inquisition suffers from a deep seated favoritism for the core races (humans, elves, dwarves, and halflings). This bias manifests stronger the higher one looks up the organizations hierarchy, becoming a hatred for the 'lesser races' near the top, and often complimented by undertones of human supremacy from the mostly human elite.

Public Agenda

The ultimate goal of the inquisition is the reunification of the continent under their leadership, forming a new Empire of Thrain. From the view of those outside the group, they proceed with this primarily through mission work and striving for the safety and protection of the continent from demons, heretics, and other evil forces. Behind the veneer of their pure mission, the inquisition is not above using highly illicit means to further their goals in secret.

Assets

The inquisition own multiple properties, both within and outside of its home kingdom of Thrain. These may range from hospices and churches, to storage bunkers and safehouses. A complete accounting of their holdings is not publicly available, and may not even be possible due to its scope.   A few of the greater assets under the control of the inquisition are the Grand Inquisitum Celeste, possibly the most massive battleship in the world, and the Pale Hospitium, one of the foremost centers of healing and medical research.

History

The Thrainish Inquisition emerged within the then kingdom of Thrain shortly before the end of the Third Era. This period saw an increase in political turmoil for the faltering kingdom, coinciding with increased religious fervor for the celestial churches. The inquisition was one of many groups that sought to steer their nation in a direction of their choosing, though they were significantly more successful in this, utilizing espionage, extortion and sabotage to quietly further their agenda. The iron grip of the inquisition was firmly established when, following the dissolution and execution of the old monarchy, the Theocracy of New Thrain formed, with the inquisition pulling most of the strings behind the scenes.

Foreign Relations

Due to following the same celestial faith as the inquisitions, most of the nations of Thea either allow, or outright welcome the inquisition within its borders. Most see it as a beneficial relationship due to the organizations prominent philanthropy. Of the core territories, only the elven lands under the Nelde Mardi and the mostly isolationist Greymarch refuse to harbor the inquisitions activities.
