The logic of the Far Realm is so vastly different from that of the Wraith Globe that symbolic ideas such as fear, hate, meaning, or evil instead take physical form. One such symbol is the Starlit Lantern, the embodiment of the very idea of evil in the Far Realm. Contrary to what one may think, this artifact is kept safe and out of harm by a number of righteous intellectuals that are widely accepted throughout the realm, the foremost being Atheron the Keeper. Contained within the building of his mind the lantern is kept safe, as in the Far Realm each mind is a pocket dimension all on its own. That is not to say that Atheron does not occasionally take the Starlit Lantern out of his mind.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The lantern, which has a frame woven from silver and adamantine, houses a sparklingly brilliant blue light. This is the light of a fallen star, a plane of the Wraith Globe consumed by the borders of the Far Realm and made physical. Not only it is a light, but it is a mind, for in the Far Realm minds are planes and planes are minds. From this, it can be deduced that the Far Realm was created after the Wraith Globe was. It is also not clear what planes was consumed to create the flame of the Starlit Lantern, but it was a clearly a plane consumed by evil.

History

Although almost nothing is known about the creation of the Far Realm, it is known that the physical embodiments of symbols such as the Starlit Lantern have existed for as long as the Far Realm has. However, Atheron has not always been the keeper of the embodiment of evil. It was passed down to him by his mentor, Paetheren. It was from Paetheren that Atheron gained his outlook on the Far Realms and the ideas within.

Significance

The Starlit Lantern is the Far Realm's embodiment of evil, and therefore the lifeblood of all evil things there. If the lantern is destroyed, all evil will temporarily be uprooted, at least until the lantern reforms itself elsewhere. Even if the thing being uprooted is evil, such a calamity would result in absolute chaos throughout the realm. For this reason, even the source of all evil must be protected. It cannot be destroyed permanently, but even temporary destruction would result in repercussions beyond comprehension.
