The Kajaak Hut

The Kajaak Hut is a special and ceremonial place for each clan in the Orcish nation of Ban-Rock-Buren. Most every clan and town in Ban-Rock-Buren has a Kajaak Hut, and a settlement not having a Kajaak Hut is usually seen as a disgrace to most members of the main religion of Ban-Rock-Buren, Matremism. The Kajaak Hut's historical use is as a sacred shelter for an altar to the All Mother, but the specifics of its use has changed slightly over time. The Kajaak Hut was first created in around 700 PG and was solely used in very large and prominent cities in Ban-Rock Buren. In about 850 PG, the hut became much more widespread, and most, if not all settlements created a Kajaak Hut. Around 1050 PG, when Matremism started to become persecuted as a "cult", the standard design for the Kajaak Hut was changed drastically. The altar itself was set underground, with a concealing trapdoor to protect it from searches. The exteriors were also changed to be less conspicuous. From there on, the Kajaak hut morphed into the present design. The trapdoor was removed, the exterior brought back to what it was, but the altar was kept set into the ground, so that older settlements containing Kajaak Huts didn't need to be altered significantly.

Purpose / Function

The Purpose of the Kajaak hut is to bring the souls of animal sacrifices sacrificed to the All Mother shelter from the weather and other hazards in the harsh landscape of Ban-Rock-Buren. The privilege of being sacrificed to the All Mother is withheld from all but the best livestock and animals.

Architecture

The Exterior of The Kajaak Hut is composed of living Ocotillo cacti and desert willow branches, due to the lack of timber in Ban-Rock-Buren. The roof of the typical Kajaak Hut is a simple thatched style, and the interior floor is composed of stone tiling.
