Summary

After the Split Nation had drifted into the dangerous Phase Lands, there was one man who created a creature so dark that it could levitate objects around with its mind. This man's name was Farid Morthos. In his mortal life, he was a good man with a large and welcoming family, but The Phase Lands changed him. He is strangely the only case of this, but he seemed to immediately go insane once he entered the Phase Lands. He began by slaughtering his entire family, followed by his entire hometown. Few escaped, but they were able to warn the military. It didn't change anything. The records of this encounter tell of Morthos' completely black eyes, and a strange aura of dust, ash, and storm clouds around him. He mutilated over 200 professional soldiers before the rest were forced to retreat, but they didn't get far. A single man survived, but his mind did not. he mumbled of a wall of shattered glass piercing the bodies of hundreds, and fountains of blood spilling from hills of corpses already dead... He also speaks of Morthos transforming into a fearsome beast almost 25 feet tall, with a dozen tentacles and warped horns... no one knows what truly happened to Farid Morthos, but it is commonly believed that he spawned a whole generation of smaller, less powerful Animaterials like himself, all over the Material Plane.

Historical Basis

There are actually records of these events happened, but they are normally exaggerated for the horror story. The Animaterial is also an actual creature, so it must have been made in some way at some time.
