Dhampir
Dhampir are exceedingly rare, even more so than the Vampires from which they are spawned. The general public sees them as the children of Vampires and living mortals, and this is accurate; such a union would produce a Dhampir. There is another way that they can be created, however, that is less well-known, and it is this method that makes Dhampir shameful among the Vampire community.
The curse of Vampirism lives in the blood, and it is passed through the blood. A Vampire can choose to kill a mortal victim and turn them into an undead Vampire like themselves, and this is a common method of reproduction for them. There is, however, a catch: doing this to a mortal that was a blood relative of the Vampire causes an imperfect transformation to occur. The victim will still rise again the following night, but as a living Dhampir rather than an undead Vampire. It is for this reason that, to Vampires, the creation of Dhampir in this manner is a taboo roughly equivalent to incest.
Most Dhampir find themselves left adrift in a world that fears or hates them. Many wander the world seeking a peace they may never find, shrouded in mystery wherever they go.
