Declaration of War Against the Mad Queen

My Queen,   As you know, I have been a faithful servant for my whole life to you, as was my father before me. Nothing has meant more to me than seeing you prosper during your reign. I have always kept your best interests at heart and worked to further your goals above all others. I have sacrificed my entire life to the throne and the Queendom at large.   You know me, I hope, and know I would never oppose you, turn on you or otherwise work against you. That is, unless it was in your best interests or in the best interests of the nation.   Therefore, please know it is with a heavy heart and great sorrow I must inform you I and the rest of the Council of Nobles have deemed your recent announcement as a declaration of war against the Queendom. You might be happy to know that you have finally got us all to agree on something, as this was the first unanimous motion passed by the council in its history.   I will say it plainly, you must step down. The unbreakable rules of our fair nation state that the Queen Centurial may only sit on the throne for 100 years. After this, they must step down and allow their prepared daughter, the Ascendant Princess, to take her rightful place. This isn’t a rule without basis, as you well know. We must maintain the efficacy and integrity of the Storm Wall, even now only a year over the ordained date of transfer it is already showing signs of strain. We cannot allow it to fail, we will be defenceless to the might of the Atralum Empire. The Dragon is waiting for a sign of our weakness.   The people are prepared to fight you on this. Troops are already marshalling and beginning the march towards Obrok. We outnumber you, you cannot hope to stand against us.   We didn’t want it to be this way, my queen.   I did not want it to be this way.   We have your daughter with us. We will install her on the throne with as brief a delay as possible. It will save the Storm Wall and the Queendom of Vreabia. Please do not worry, we don’t intend on deposing your family line.   I beg of you, my Queen, do not fight us on this. If you step down, we will treat you fairly and allow you to live out your remaining years as other rulers have before you.   I remain a faithful servant of the Queendom and, as always, your friend.   Aetonwer Kalin, Lord of Berthideen

Historical Notes

This letter was sent to Tabestia Stheya, the second Queen Centurial, by Aetonwer Kalin, Lord of Berthideen on behalf of the Council of Nobles. This was the start of a twelve-year period of fighting that historians now call The Years of Madness. Before this event, Lord Kalin was known as the Queen’s strongest proponent and many believed her secret lover.   The only reply they received was a letter with just “No” written repeatedly, inked in the blood of the messenger who delivered the letter to the Queen.   They framed the original letter in the Royal Palace museum for all to see. The reply, however, is not.

"You might be happy to know that you have finally got us all to agree on something" was great. :D
