Adren

(a.k.a. The White Changeling)

Adren's primary goal in life is to find a cure for whatever ails the unicorn. She is misanthropic, blunt often to the point of rudeness, and distrustful of humans.   She is, however, also loyal to those she cares about and utterly consistent in her personal moral code. And she would do anything for the unicorn.   Despite her unusual appearance and her magical abilities, she doesn't consider herself a magical creature, but it's also unlikely she's human. None of this, however, stops magical creatures from initially speaking to her as if she is one of them, or from humans having given her the White Changeling moniker.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

When anxious enough, Adren experiences sensory sensitivities and claustrophobia. Even when not anxious, she finds the sounds and sights of human settlements to be too much, although she tends to manage her discomfort well.

Special abilities

Adren is able to make herself appear invisible for a limited period of time. This is not true invisibility, as fairies and some with fae blood can see through the illusion. She also has the ability to feel what the unicorn is feeling, as well as tell when it is asleep and approximately where and how far away it is. Unfortunately, due to the unicorn's tendency to mirror and amplify any of Adren's negative feelings, Adren tends to suppress hers as much as possible.   There is a part of her mind that she refers to as "the dark place" that sometimes releases memories. It also released her magic, powerful natural magic that she is afraid of, but that she is learning to control.

Mental characteristics

Mental Trauma

Early in her search for a cure for the unicorn, Adren was betrayed by a human man named Pider. He told her he'd found a cure, but he kidnapped her to lure the unicorn to him. If Adren had not been able to escape with the unicorn after injuring Pider, she might have lost the unicorn. She promised herself that something like this would never happen again.

Morality & Philosophy

As far as Adren is concerned, no humans are to be trusted, unlike magical creatures. Recent events, however, have been making her seriously doubt this belief.

Personality Characteristics

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Adren gets lost very easily in cities and other human settlements, and cannot tell where the cardinal directions are in relation to herself. She can, however, find her way in the woods. Buildings, roads, and straight lines confuse her sense of direction.

Social

Family Ties

The closest Adren has to family is the unicorn, who has her fierce loyalty and deep affection. The unicorn is also the only one Adren seems capable of relaxing around.

History

Adren and Nadin ended up travelling together after Nadin helped Adren in Watorej. (See Hidden in Sealskin). They tend to have a lot of friction, sometimes outright conflict, but over time their bond and their trust for each other has been growing.
