Troll Origins (full version)

A Birth of a Race.
As it seemed that Mariónen's mental health was declining, Tarathu felt the need to protect her, even from herself, if needed. He needed a flexible way to protect her, he needed guards.
One the first summer day, he began to cultivate a large field, then he drench it with water, lastly he let the suns, dry it out until it was nearly scourge. He repeated this process more then a 1000 times, until he finally was satisfied. Instead of scourging the mud a last time, he submerge the 10 petrified wooden cores in the mud, and began to sing the tunes of magic, for them.
On the following winter day, 10 creatures began to emerge from the mud. In his arrogance, he had expected warriors that would look like him or at least like a form of sub-race originate from him. The creatures that emerged, was fare from his visions.
The patriarch himself, though slim, was a tall man. But these creatures was huge compere to him, and almost trice as wide as him. And... they didn't look much like elves. Even the women were so ugly, that he became nauseated while looking at them. He did however, se some useful traits in them. They had a staunch will, strong muscles, a keen mind, and were eager to learn. They were young in spirit, so he greeted them as a strong decisiv leader and a patient mentor. He gave them the name Trolls, mostly based on their appearance.   The Four Years of Training
The Patriarch knew that he needed to teach the Trolls how to be more then simple creatures. He calculated that he would need 4 years to educate them.
  • The first year the patriarch taught them the basics:
    • Language.
      • Speech.
      • How to read and write.
    • Simple mathematics.
      • Geometric.
      • How to use measurement.

  • The second year he taught them how to live of the land in a nomadic style:
    • Hunting, using spears and javelins.
    • Tracking
    • Foresting.
    • Trailblazing
    • Rural survival
    • Simple cooking.
    • Building shelters, of logs, branches, leafs, and foliage.
    • Making cloths; only what is absolute necessary, to not look like an animal; but only by using what they can find in nature; tree bark, leafs, and large vines.

  • The third year he taught them how to build and live in a society:
    • Architecture, using both wood and stone for housing.
    • Engineering, to construct fortified watchtowers and walls.
    • How to smith weapons, matching their size and strength.
    • How to smith armors, matching their size and their relentless movement patten.
    • How to smith tools, matching their size and strength.

  • The fourth year he made them a military force:
    • How to use shields, both tower-shields and "half-shields" (half the size of the tower-shields).
    • How to use all melee weapons, both one-handed, including how to dual-wield them, and two-handed.
      • The Patriarch never intended the Trolls to be used in a large army, therefor he didn't find it necessary, to teach them how to use bows and crossbows.
    • Tactics in skrimishes.
    • Teamwork.
    • Following orders.
    • Leadership
    • The most basic, herbalist healing.
Each year Tarathu choose the most talented among the Trolls, to form and carry on the traditions to the young-lings.
  • The first year a female troll was chosen. Her name was Buurwark and she were called the Master Scholar.
  • The second year a male troll was chosen. His name was Grall and he were called the Master Hunter.
  • The thired year a male troll was chosen. His name was Saraama and he were called the Master Crafter.
  • The fourth year a male troll was chosen. His name was Tardork and he were called the Master Warrior.
These four masters are also known as the Prim Masters.   Their Role as a Protecting Escort
At the end of the fourth year, Tarathu, assigned the Prim Warrior Tardork and the Prim Hunter Grall, Rarak, Sigurth, Wardrin, and Adrath, to the unit in charge of protecting Mariónen.
These 6 Trolls became the members of the Ancient Troll Escort.   Time with Mariónen
When Tarathu convinced Mariónen that she needed the Trolls Escort, the Patriarch introduced each of the Trolls to the Matriarch.
It was at this occasion that Tarathu, came to admire traits within Mariónen, that he, in the past had seen as weaknesses; both in her and himself.
It was in the way she greeted every single Troll, even the 6, who where standing in the back looking at the whole event, with a beautiful elegance. Her appearance was proud and arrestrocratic, while still being kind and engage in everyone of the Trolls. She always found a feature, worth emphases, in each one of them, where it a feature, of their physical or mental appearance.   At first the Ancient Troll Escort did there duty only in a pragmatic way. The Trolls sat for themselves, giving Mariónen peace and quiet to do the things she sought to do. Quickly though, Tardork realized that the Elven Matriarch seemed heartbreaking lonely, and her mental state was declining. He molded this over some time, before deciding to include the council of his mate, Sigurth. The Trolls as a race, are actually very emphatic and caring, unfortunately only towards their own kind. This trait was especially strong in Sigurth, but also a little different than the other Trolls. She was genuinely compassionated towards other beings.
The next journey, after one of the Matriarch's courts with the flowers; Sigurth, instead of joining her fellow Trolls, asked permission to sit with Mariónen.
The two quickly became friends, Sigurth was lively, curious and showed a genuinely interest in Mariónen. The Matriarch was at first, overvelmed by the general directness of the Troll, but soon she was giggling, seeing it as a invigorating, and needed quirk, in contrast of the stiffness in Elven court. Tardork was pleased with the result and so was Tarathu, who saw his beloved becoming more in love with life again.   Sigurth's Facination with Magic
When Tarathu created the Troll race, he belived that the only kind of Magic that existed, was the Elven kind of Singing-Magic. Therefor he was detimend to not make them able to use Singing-Magic by limiting the vocabulary of the Trolls and by making their voice resemble their physical appereance, giving them a deep muddy voice. But Tarathu didn't share this knowlege with Mariónen or the Trolls themself. However Sigurth was so facinated with the Magic performed by Mariónen, so the two friends used days, making Sigurth able to cast Magic. But it never happened and realizing this send Sigurth into depression.
