London Air Police

The London Air Police are the dedicated aviation law enforcement force Metropolitan London. They serve several functions--protecting the skies of London from Air Pirate raids and other criminals using aviation assets; dealing with rogue drone delivery systems; enforcement of air safety standards, and shutting down pirate radio stations that broadcast via drone.   The Air Police are a tough, professional force--a little quicker to use force than the Metropolitan Police. They are a little less concerned with the consent of policed, and more concerned with keeping the airspace safe.   They are derived from, and remain close partners with, the London Metropolitan Police. However, in contrast to Scotland Yard, the Air Police are always armed on duty (note, like all other Metro Police, they are not authorized to carry firearms off duty). The justification for arming is simple--really hard to get weapons airborne in a hurry.   The Air Police has five Air Cutters--smaller airships designed for patrolling the airspace in London. They also have a dedicated command and control airship used for major responses. They also maintain a fleet of twenty helicopters for fast response across the city.   The Air Cutters are armed with grapple guns and boarding harpoons, and each one maintains a squad of Air Police Constables, ready for service as a boarding force.   The Air Police have an interservice agreement with the Met; assisting the Metropolitan Police in major incident response by providing air cover; they have mutual jurisdiction over incidents which involve both air and ground aspects--for instance, air pirates trying to rob a bank. The Air Police have a particularly close relationship with the Met’s Marine Policing Unit, due to the incidence of air pirates trying to steal or raid yachts docked at the port. With the recent expansion of submarine smuggling and piracy, the Marine Policing Unit and the Air Police are working on expanding their relationship into submarine detection and interdiction, using a combined Air/Marine Police Task Force.
