Riegark
The Capital of Tyrieze
Riegark is the capital city of Tyrieze. It gained it's power by being a major trade hub. As one of the only passes through the Ghiran mountains, it's the best path for merchants to travel via land.
The political strife happening in Tyrieze comes to a head in Riegark, where the Merchant Guild continuously tries to strong arm the king into their demands, but Riegark is also the hub of his power as it is where the Tyrieze military is based in and where he can exert the most taxes.
City Description
The city is nestled cleanly with a valley between two mountains in the Ghiran mountain range. Riegurk has four major districts separating it’s class hierarchy. The more north you go, the nicer and more expensive it gets, with the Royal Palace at the base of the northernmost mountain. The Noble Court
The Noble Court is the nicest and most restrictive district of Riegurk. All the noble families of Riegurk live in this district. It is incredibly well guarded and peasants typically aren’t allowed entrance unless they have business with nobility. Although, this rule is often skirted by the wealthy merchants of Tyrieze. The Noble Court is entirely residential, reserved exclusively to house nobility. The Rich People District
This is where the majority of Tyrieze’s upper class spends their time. The wealthy, but nobility lacking merchants live here. It is also a hub of commerce. Because the Noble Court is exclusively for housing, noble families will spend much of their free time shopping and eating in the various restaurants, shops and boutiques that line the streets of this district. It has weaker security than the Noble Court, but there are still guards lining every corner and the residents often share a dirty look for any working class peasants that wander into here.Market Street
Riegurk only has two exits to leave the city, one on each side of the mountain range. Market Street is the longest street in Riegurk going in a straight line from one exit to the other. This street and several of the nearby streets are lined with stores, markets, and artisan workshops. This is the trade hub of the city for all those not wealthy enough for the Upper Levels, as well as foreign merchants passing through. If something can be found anywhere in Riegurk, you’re likely to find it somewhere along Market Street. The Slums
The Slums is the ill kept residential district for lower class citizens. The northern part is mainly for artisans, but it gets worse as you go further south. At the southernmost part is where citizens live in abject poverty with little to no security or city maintenance at all. Points of InterestSociety
Demographics
As Riegurk is a trading hub, it’s society is fairly diverse. It’s largest demographic is humans. However, it also has large proportions of human offspring races such as Half-Elves and Half-Orcs. There is also a sizable population of Gnomes that have settled in for it’s mercantile advantages.Notable People
Harold
Harold is a high ranking executive in the Merchant’s Guild known for his friendly demeanor and ability to find compromise with even the most unyielding of negotiators. He’s been a huge benefit to the Merchant’s Guild in dealing with the Royal Court and their increasingly anti-mercantile policies. Above all else, Harold is known for his one true passion in life: collecting rugs. Whenever he has the chance he will go on voyages hunting down antiques and making connections with merchants all across the continent.Factions
The Royal Court
The King of Tyrieze and his Royal Court have the highest authority in the city, even above the Merchant’s Guild. However, as Tyrieze becomes more economically powerful, the Merchant’s Guild gains more and more political power as well. The King has become increasingly paranoid of the merchants looking to overthrow him. The Merchant’s Guild is too powerful for him to simply remove, but he looks to impede them as much as possible in the political power struggle. The Merchant’s Guild
The Merchant’s Guild is a union of the merchants of Riegurk and have begun to expand over all of Tyrieze. They have grown angry with the King’s support of the Grahzantine Empire because it is increasing taxes and diverting the army’s resources which has led to increases in bandit attacks. The Merchant’s Guild seeks to overtake the King in power and make him politically impotent so that he can no longer interfere with their business.History
Riegark is said to have been founded by the First King of Tyrieze, Rieuk. He was a legendary hero of old with many epic tales about him, including him defending the city from siege on 27 different occasions. Since then, the crown has been passed down his lineage until it reached the current King.General Information
