Paranoia from a Bottle

Transmission & Vectors

The condition comes from the repeated exposure, or use, of a specific potion with healing properties with incorrect doses of some ingredients.

Causes

The original potion, Tae'ndi Kup'r, treats joint pain and inflammatory symptoms with little-to-no side effects. However, by increasing the dose of the túnr'ozu root and combining the flower and leaves of the kup'r plant before adding it to the mixture, one can create a different potion with detrimental effects including addiction and paranoia.

Symptoms

Those under this affliction, exhibit symptoms of paranoia, confusion, mental pliability, short-term memory loss, and aggression, among other things. Symptoms may vary on a case-by-case basis.

Treatment

There are no recorded cases of treatment due to the rarity of the condition (there are two, and no documents are covering them). However, if the instability and its cause were more widely known, it would be easy to develop a cure. If a Healer caught the problem early enough, the afflicted could be weaned off the potion and lead an ordinary life.

Prognosis

The first few doses of the corrupted healing potion cause euphoria and heightened suggestibility. Addiction begins with the second and third doses.   After the next few doses, patients begin to exhibit symptoms of paranoia, short-term memory loss, and or aggression.   After long-term use, the body and mind may begin to deteriorate until the afflicted user loses most of their senses and faculties.

Sequela

Like most cases of addiction, dropping the potion "cold turkey" could result in worsened symptoms of anxiety and aggression, fever, heart problems, and death.

Epidemiology

It is not contagious.

History

A Healer was attempting to increase the pain-relieving effects of Tae'ndi Kup'r for the king by including the stem of the kup'r plant and accidentally used too much of the túnr'ozu root. The king's son reported the appearing symptoms to the Healer in question and asked that she make certain adjustments to increase the pliability factor for his father and decrease the aggression. After much trial-and-error, the Healer discovered that the túnr'ozu root created both symptoms, so she handled the hostility with a second concoction instead.
