Odune

Those who are from the Odune ethnicity have survived the Decay Era and were the most persistent in combating the virus. They are the ones who's town was being destroyed by the virus brought by a nearby decimated village. They were the one who initiated the Flames of Hope movement after the residents went mad and decided to burn everything and anything that could be infected. They did it as a desperate cry against the cruelty of the world. But as they soon discovered, the fire and burning were effective at purging the place of the virus. They told others of their discovery and began the movement.
To this day they stand as a symbol of resilience and wisdom. Their culture revolves around the flames and roots deep into every aspect of their society and everyday lives. Their religion is called (_Flame_)
Their average lifetime is around 140 to 250 years.

Naming Traditions

Family names

It is expected that every offspring of an Odune must be named with a traditional family name. If the progenitors are both Odune then the one with the more powerful family name will be inherited to the offspring. If the progenitors are not both Odune the family name of the Odune must always be the one inherited, otherwise the offspring will be cursed by (insert flame god's name).

Culture

Coming of Age Rites

Around the age of 30 is when an Odune is expected to have had offspring. When this happens, they are given the choice to stay and become a working member of their society or leave the city, town, village, etc and spread the legacy of the greatness of the Odune to the world.

/* "spread the legacy of the greatness of the Odune to the world" is subjective */

Funerary and Memorial customs

One word: Flames    The usual funeral for the average citizen was to burn the body and their most valued material possession. They ashes scattering to the wind was symbolic for the free nature of the Odune soul, and how nothing, not the body nor material possessions were to last forever. But the soul would forever live on, carried by the winds until it can reincarnate into another form.

/*There are priests and/or shrine maidens that have traditionally held certain abilities not unlike firebending from "Avatar: The last airbender." And for the 'special' funerals and memorials they often held a spectacular "firestorm" display to honor the passing of said person(s) The firestorm is created by the priests/shrine maidens and lasts 3 days and 3 nights. They stay by the firestorm for that period of time without food and scarce water (Its one of the many tests they must go through as a priest/shrine maiden) and they maintain the fire as well as make sure it doesn't get out of control. Since the Odune aren't materialistic they usually end up throwing most if not all the material possesions of the person into the fire storm.        There was a dark twist to this sometime ago, as the special/important/great people who died usually died because of the Decay virus (as did most people in those days) everything they owned and were in usual contact with was burned. And so too, were the people they were in contact with, which usually meant family. So when someone died due to the Decay it was typical for them to take everything and everyone they lived with them.*/
