You might think that to strengthen your mind, your Tel, you simply have to use it, and while this is true it is far from the only way. In fact it can be better to use other methods.
There are three primary skills that can develop your Tel with use. This is unique among the 6 traits, which generally have much fewer primaries. These primaries are the best way to gain Tel. These skills are:
Alchemy: This skill uses the Gle Trait. It is described more thoroughly in A Skill Encyclopedia book 9, however I will go into some small detail here. Alchemy is the uses of materials (generally herbs) to make products that expresses some useful quality of the material. The cheapest way to grind this skill to to buy some basic herbs and then slowly make some beer. Do not focus on speed, focus on the motions.
Ingenuity: This incredible skill was described in book 1 (and A Skill Encyclopedia book 33 However I will talk about such skills in how it relates to working towards a greater Tel. You can practice this skill by observing the world around you and trying to make it more efficient, or use something that isn’t. Honestly this is a hard skill to master, still where there is a will there's a way.
Language: I described this skill in the previous book (and more in depth in A Skill Encyclopedia book 34). It can be Mastered by practicing and trying to logic your way through a written part of another language.
There are 6 secondary skills for developing your Tel. These are some of the best ways to gain Tel, and effectively the last reliable way to gain them, if you master any of these skills you are effectively guaranteed some amount of Tel.
Leather Working: This skill uses the Gle Trait. I go in depth about it in A Skill Encyclopedia book 15. It is taking skins and crafting items out of them. The best way to master this skill is to buy a few skins, then one at a time, craft with them. Even if you feel as if you can increase your pace don’t, keep focus.
Staff Fighting: This uses the Tre Trait, and is in A Skill Encyclopedia book 29. It is simply how to fight with a Staff. This can be mastered easily, you can either practice for a long time, or fight in combat with a Staff. While getting fighting experience is much faster than training it is much more dangerous, do at your own risk.
Astronomy: described in book 1, in book 31 of A Skill Encyclopedia, and in my Magic Of The Stars Series. It is looking at the stars and seeing what secrets they hold. It can be easily mastered it simply by spending time observing the stars at night.
Literacy: described in book 1 and in book 35 of A Skill Encyclopedia. It can be mastered impossibly easily, all you need to do is read easy books. It might take you a couple of days.
Merchant: described in book 1 and in book 36 of A Skill Encyclopedia. It is arguing prices, and can be mastered by frequently using small amounts of money to buy things.
Animal Handling: This uses Tet, and is described in book 38 of A Skill Encyclopedia. It involves training and domesticating animals. This can be mastered by feeding animals and generally interacting with them. An easy way to do it is to try to get someone’s pet to trust you.
There are a lot (14) of tertiarily related skills to Tel development. However they are are chancy, and not a good method of gathering Tel. I will go through them all saying which trait they use, which Skill Encyclopedia, and the easiest way to master it.
Herbalism (Pe): A Skill Encyclopedia book 2, gather basic herbs around the town.
Sheering (Pe): A Skill Encyclopedia book 4, gather feather or fur from pets
Trapping (Pe): A Skill Encyclopedia book 6, Trap around town for game
Building (Gle): A Skill Encyclopedia book 11, Maintain the buildings, build wall/roads
Carving (Gle): A Skill Encyclopedia book 12, Make wooden vials
Farming (Gle): A Skill Encyclopedia book 14, Buy 20 seeds, then spend hours planting each
Repair (Gle): A Skill Encyclopedia book 16, repair the building around town, or equipment
Tailoring (Gle): A Skill Encyclopedia book 17, slowly make cloth
Trade Crafting (Gle): A Skill Encyclopedia book 18, Make some jewelry from cheap materials
Driving (Tel): A Skill Encyclopedia book 31, pull a cart
Weather (Tel): A Skill Encyclopedia book 36, check the weather, then recheck it
Meditation (Tet): A Skill Encyclopedia book 38, spend time
Tracking (Tet): A Skill Encyclopedia book 40, hunt
First Aid (Tut): A Skill Encyclopedia book 42, study corpses, cut yourself to practise
So how would I recommend working on Tel? I would suggest that you master reading because it is so fast and easy to do. After that I would use a staff in combat, and train up alchemy and language. If you master those 4 skills you should get a good bit of Te. After that, if you can train ingenuity, else work more on the secondaries, more specifically Animal handling and merchant first, then the rest in whatever order.
If you have mastered these skills, first good on you, second how that's a few years worth of training how?, third after that there really isn’t a good way of gaining Tel. I mean you can work on your tertiary skills, but those will not get you much. Still there is hope, some books will provide Tel, still this is rather rare, though I suppose you could write them, and add them to the library (like I am doing).
