General Assembly Speeches
Theme: Security
Senator Francine Radcliff
The city is under threat. There's no denying it. You know it, I know it, even our President knows it. More than once, the city has been on the brink. Strix agents infiltrating our very highest offices. Hunters, slaughtering us in our sleep. Camarilla war-mongering!And now, don't misunderstand me, I am not here to criticize the actions of President Hargrave in the face of these, I am sure, highly stressing situations. Indeed, even if I wanted to, I could not, for the president TOOK no actions! It has been the policy of this administration, even in the face of truly existential threats, to lean back, sip on a fresh glass of blood and just hope it passes. Yes, the Republic survived these attacks on it - But it was not without losses. And we are not talking immaterial losses. We are talking about Kindred meeting the Final Death. This is, frankly, unacceptable.
That is why I am running on a platform, not of inaction and "it-will-all-work-out-ness". I am running on action.
If I am installed, I will do what President Hargrave has failed to do and immediately create a new arm of the Republic; The Office of Order. This new department will work with the Governors, to ensure that order and compliance with the Laws of the Shadow Republic will be enforced evenly, fairly, and consistently. No longer will the Governors have to root out infiltrators in our midst on their own but will be able to rely on the aid of a strong, unified Republic, willing to go to any lengths to protect us!
A vote for Francine Radcliff is a vote for Order.
Senator Navaline
Heresy. Betrayal. Corruption. Senator Radcliffe would have you believe that these evils, infiltrating our republic, is the result of a lack of institutional oversight, an administrative and clerical error. Something you can fix with the stroke of a pen and legal reform. But she has made the wrong diagnosis and as such, offered to us a lethally malicious cure! Indeed, the disease is not an error of institutions, but of morals. We are, in our hearts, corrupted creatures. We are not humans, no matter what spectacle the Carthians or the Invictus may make of it - We are vampires. Kindred. Monsters. And as such, we have a natural inclination towards betrayal and evil that MUST be curbed! We are weak because we are those who have fallen the furthest.Yet, there is, if not a cure, at least a treatment. A way to curtail our most destructive urges. A recognition of who we are and a return to the wise teachings of the Testament of Longinus. We must come together and, rather than try and solve this with paper and ink, we must secure first and foremost the damned souls of our kind. This is where the corruption grows. This is where it must be uprooted. I say to you now, if I am elected, I will ensure an Inquisition, not of our bodies, but of our souls. I will cleanse us and cleanse this republic, of heresy, of betrayal and of corruption. A vote for Navalina. Is a vote for Purity.
President Malcolm Hargrave
Fine folks, Navaline and Miss Radcliffe, aren't they? I gotta give them, they've got some real fine ideas. Good heads on their shoulders - And dangerous, to boot! They are the exact sorta folks we should all be proud to have in our fine Republic. Because it is a fine Republic we got. Now, folks, I ain't one to toot my own horn, you know that, but I dare say that the Shadow Republic is the finest Kindred sovereignty in the World - Old AND New. What you are hearing from my esteemed challengers is not a lack of love for our Republic, not at all. I know both of them would lay down and give the sun a jolly good morning greeting, if that was what it required. But... And like on each and everyone one of us, there's a but. They are forgetting why they love our Republic. What sets the Shadow Republic apart from the dukedoms of the East Coast and the Camarilla Kingdoms of the West. It's a simple thing, really. Freedom. We all here, we ain't part of the Shadow Republic because we're blood bonded like those dwelling under New York's Red Queen, neither under the boot heel of the King of Graves or sheltering in fear under the protective skirts of the Three Dukes. No - We have banded together, out of a mutual desire, not just for safety, but for freedom. We yearn for more than just existence - We want our nights to be ruled by our own accords, by our own accord. So, I am asked, what will I do about the threats? Well, my answer is simple. I will rely on the mutual, freely given cooperation of the Kindred of this excellent Republic. I will call on the Minutemen to raise their muskets. I will ask the Lehmann Hunt Society to hunt down monsters in our midst. And when the enemies come calling, why, I will ask the Knights of Invictus to draw their swords and I will charge with them, into the breach once more! So, to sum it up. A vote for Malcolm Hargrave. Well, it's a vote for the Shadow Republic.
