The Lamp

The Taima-Rika

The Taima-Rika (loosely translated as 'the torch (or light) of science') is a movement that promotes the use of reason, logic, and evidence. They argue that the gods we are taught about are falsehoods, invented to keep the general populous under sufficient control.   Initially, they were a secret society using codes and ciphers to communicate with each other. But the very nature and purpose of their organization demanded that they evolve into a publicly known entity. They have been that for many years now, but still, they need to maintain some form of secrecy regarding their main location and who their members are. Because of their viewpoint, they have earned the ire of many organizations, mostly the main religions in the regions in which they operate.

Symbol

They have purchased properties throughout the region that act as safehouses for their followers. Many of these are taverns/inns, shops, and other establishments.   When entering a town or city for the first time, followers can identify a safe house by the image of a torch or lamp - the symbol of the movement. This is usually included as part of the signboard for the establishment and can be accompanied by an image that symbolizes transformation, such as a butterfly, to signify the transformation of society that the movement wishes to achieve.   In large cities, the image may also somehow incorporate a number that is relevant to the movement - this is to minimize the risk of mistaking a place as a safe house that uses similar imagery to advertise its business. The most commonly used number is five, which is the number of the movement's founding members. This may be done with the number itself or including that number of objects or shapes into the design.
