Holiday Carriages to Churiss

Flying Carriages

Air Carriages were known to be invented, designed, and owned by the The Nation of Churiss. They were made primarily for the Tourism industry and they are chartered by wealthy tourists to travel to their nearest pick-up location and then take them on to Churiss for their holiday or adventure.   The carriages operate in strings of four and can transport up to fifty-two guests at a time, and are very expensive to charter. On occasion, a traveler charters an entire four carriages to themselves - very expensive but it does afford them a great status upon their arrival.   One distinctive feature of these flying carriages is that they are not pulled by any beasts, but are instead powered by 'batteries'. These are located on the underside of each carriage, with a few spares should there be any problems. They look like small crates - very few know what they are on the inside. The coachmen are trained in how to replace these batteries mid-flight should that be necessary.   The physical construction alone of the carriages would make for a comfortable journey in most conditions. It is fitted with an outer shell with a free-moving inner pod (that houses the travelers) and remains relatively stable in its orientation. The addition of some magic means it is a smooth journey that astounds even those who have magical abilities.

Arrival

All visitors arriving are flown to the 'carriage-port' specially incorporated/built into the design of the brand new city. As they come into land, crowds of hundreds or people wave them in. The tourists are warmly welcomed by the citizens of this 'open city' that styles itself on openness to all. They gain joy from the opportunity to display the hospitality of their city and to learn more about other cultures. Some outsiders scorn this as a weakness - the leaders and people of the city strongly believe it is their key strength.   On a more commercial note, the tourists bring significant income to the city - tourism is about an eighth of its total economy and growing fast since the rebuild of the capital city. This covers the places where the visitors stay and those they visit during their time. But it also extends to many support services.   Those visiting know that they are in for a holiday to remember. There is one 'word of warning' for any visitor - be respectful of the city, its citizens, and other visitors. As genuinely welcoming as the city is, it has a very low tolerance for the ill-mannered and one that is almost zero for law-breakers.   A common phrase in the City of Churiss is 'Freedom is Responsibility'.   It has to be said that the thieves that operate in the city are also pleased with the intake of some very wealthy individuals who will likely be drinking pretty heavily during their stay and become careless with their valuables.

The True Inventors

The carriages are not actually an invention from Churiss. In reality, they were invented in the city of Agano, the city where science reigns. The people, and even some of its leaders do not know this. A regular payment is made to Agano for the hire of these vehicles.
