Alignment

Intro

Alignment is often a difficult thing for players that often comes down to most being neutral. However I think that that is due to people thinking that if you're not completely selfless you are not good and that if you break any law you are not lawful. However I think it should be a bit different so I created a couple of questions that help someone determine their alignment.

Question 1

Would you help someone without getting anything in return?

Notes

If you have a character that primarily wants to improve your image as a hero by questing and boasting about your accomplishments, getting nothing in return means that it will not improve your image.

If a task would have a cost such as you need to replace arrows you used, you have to pay for repairs to your armor or other comparable things, you can be paid for it and still call it without getting anything in return.

If you answer Yes to this question you are Good.

Question 2

Would you hurt someone if it would help yourself?

Notes

It does not have to be physical hurt, getting someone fired, or breaking up someone's relation also counts as hurting someone.

An example would be if you and someone else are being considered to complete a task with a substantial reward, would you discredit the other guy in order to get the job (even if he is also discrediting you).

If you answer Yes to this question you are Evil.

Question 3

Do you think that there should be laws and that people whom break those laws should be punished?

Notes

This does not mean that everyone that does anything wrong will be punished way to harshly but it is fitting punishment for the crime.

It also does not mean that you are not lawful if you break a law but that you have a moral dilemma with doing it.

Another thing is that you do not have to think it is just that a child that steals an apple because he is starving should be thrown in jail. But it means that you think there should be a law that states that stealing is bad and that people whom do it should be punished.

If you answer Yes to this question you are Lawful.

Question 4

Do you think there should be guidelines and that people should be allowed to decide for themselves if the situation is appropriate to follow them?

Notes

This does not mean that there will not be any consequences to ignoring guidelines, but it means that you can if you think the situation does not fit the guideline.

If you answer Yes to this question you are Chaotic.
