The Unseelie Host of Brec'hwood

"Ho ho! Well, tiddle diddle! Black and Red and Blue in the Middle!   Let Me ask You a Riddle Child, Little!   I am Mirrors and Fog,   Too much and You Die!   Not enough and You'll go Bye!   Just right, Alive!   I Break what I Bind.   What am I?     Hurry, Hurry, Hurry now! I'm getting thirsty and I need a drink! Quick before I make a stink! If You Lose, You're not just out-- I'll make sure that You Never come About!"

Structure

The Fey are normally divided into Courts and Houses. However, as there are fewer of their number that exist in this realm, there is only one Court and only one House. Those who have become stranded from their ancient home are stripped of their titles and names, most often by the overwhelming number of other Fey adopting them into their new home. All of which, following their light in the dark, the Lady of the Lake.   Queen of the Lunar Court is Marwoleath, believed to be the first Fey to have set foot in the plane and who has certainly proved her wisdom in guiding the Court to surviving and thriving. She gives council to the Court, but often cannot be found within the natural bounds of the Faeriewood. She reveals her advice in enchantments and whispers through the woods when the Lunar Court beseeches her.   The Lunar Court is a group of nobles, originally lost in the wood before the House of Meirwa was established in earnest. They are the elders of the Greater Fey. They establish the rulings over martial and judicial matters; in matters of fairness and favors, the Lunar Court determines upon which head the debt has failed. Furthering, the Lunar Court determines the extent and range of the Wild Hunt.   The Court is served by the House of Meirwa, Elves from a variety of homes that have been adopted into the fold of Marwoleath. They serve the Mother of the House loyally, stranded here in an alien world, they protect their new home with the faith that they will return whence they came. The House are trained military, experienced warriors of centuries of battle from the Fey. They serve as enforcers, hunters, knights, champions, and wizards throughout the Unseelie. It is by their hand that punishment it meted out from the Lunar Court.   At the bottom are the other Fey, mixed in between those that are only minor nuisances, such as brownies, to bloodthirsty creatures like redcaps and hags. They range in power in influence and all try to find a means to change the wood in their favor and achieve personal designs, but none have such a unity or strength as House Meirwa. Nearly self-governed and self-interested, the Faerie are encouraged to police themselves and stay out of the way of greater beings.

History

The Unseelie Fey are otherworldly creatures trapped in the Material Plane. Far from home, with no means of return, they have taken up residence within the western valley of the KRVE. As a whole they are comprised of a multitude of races and species crossed from the Feywild and with each new season more of their Host enter into the world through breaches in the barrier between the two worlds. Notoriously filling the negative void created by the Seelie Fey, they have more violent and morose dispositions than their brighter counterparts.   Those who first entered into the pristine wood around 800 RK, found home and safety within the arcane valley. They adopted the forest as their own and found blessings from the Lady of the Lake to light their way through the unknown world. Entering into familiarity, they began rebuilding the old Courts that once they knew in their homeland. Underneath the House of Meirwa, a new noble house ruled the wood and the Unseelie and with them, a new contest for ownership of the KRVE.

Foreign Relations

The Fey have no further relations, or at least none anyone would consider diplomatic, with any outsiders. Their main prey, and of course that is how they describe it, are the The People of Perth. Frequently upon the Ritual of Celebration, Fey will go out to retrieve and meddle and play with the commoners out in the KRVE. They will range far from home to run into unsuspecting homes. Depending on the mood and personality and type of Fey, the form their play will manifest changes. For some, its as simple as stealing shoes or stealing wedding bands. For others, releasing the cattle will be enough.   But for most, undeterred violence and trickery is most amusing. Minor Fey love the concept of tricking a man into cooking his child, thinking they were baking the bread; into forcing hunters to become the hunted, some by wandering into the wolf-den in their sleep, some by turning them into wolf-men; into tricking children into running from home and losing themselves in their wood; replacing children with changelings, delighting in the lie. There are unsightly Fey: hags and other creatures that take the cover of Man in the night; slinking into the beds of families, poisoning them from the root; selling the meat of other children trapped in the wood to their parents; cursing the dead of villages to come back and haunt their homes. For most minor Fey, the harm has no malice, it simply exists as part and parcel to their amusement, but for creatures like hags, they're entire existence depends upon feeding off the suffering of others.   Greater Fey, such as those within The Lunar Court, refuse contact with the other races in the valley. Most seasons they find themselves preoccupied and uninterested with the failings of the temporary beings, although they defend their homes with vigor and refuse the influence of other realms to creep into the wood. It is from this, the Elves have continuously harassed the druids and village that exists at the south of the West Clough. Staging regular raids at during the phases between lunar celebrations, they steal and kill, escaping the bounds of the woods only to reduce the number of those neighboring the wood. With each foray of the Great Host, atop white steeds, bathed in emerald, they haunt the valley.   The people of Perth call these Knights, the Wild Hunt.
