Water

Water. A resource that every living thing requires to survive, yet so few really give much thought about. In the parched Wild Waste, water plays a big role. As valuable a resource as wood, it provides income to many who in turn provide it to the rest of the Waste, providing nourishment for the people of the Sands.

Properties

Geology & Geography

Like most deserts, water is incredibly scarce in the Waste. This obviously makes it hard for many people to live in it without some sort of reliable source of water. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the Sands, no such reliable sources exist. The Waste does experience natural rainfall rarely, but water never ends up pooling up in one spot, since the Sands are always shifting, and greedy parchworms often suck up the vast majority of it. Parchworms can be used for water, as while they dry up anything near them they are quite moist on the inside. However, juicing a parchworm and drinking the black, bloody slurry that emerges isn't the most pleasant or healthy experience.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Luckily, there is one place in the Waste that provides a reliable stream of water, both literally and figuratively. Well, two places, actually, just in the same location. Anth'Tkur and Hollowhome are rivals not only due to territory issues, but because they both export the same resource: water. The Dwarves of Hollowhome draw from the earth, pumping great amounts of groundwater with specialized machines. On the other hand, the Orcs of Anth'Tkur draw from the sky, using their storm magic to gather water vapor from the air and cause a storm over their city, providing them with as much water as they require. These two cities both sell their water at a premium, often refusing to sell to those who purchase from the other city.

Storage

The biggest water storage in the Waste might have to be the large lake in the center of Anth'Tkur, which is maybe the only real lake in the entire Waste. Water is shipped through the Waste on specialized train cars made for holding it. Water in smalelr towns and cities than Anth'Tkur is usually stored in a massive metal tank, from which water can be drawn by whoever requires it. These tanks are often positioned near a town's railport, so that the water tanks used to top up railtrains can be easily refilled.
