Blood Eagle

Blood eagle is the name of a notable wastebone in the waste. Not notable for the creature it may have once come from, however, or the people who call it home. Instead, it is notable for the thousands of rust-eating pests that call it home, and the dreadful effect it has had on travel in the area, its residents making it impossible to bring a railtrain even close.

Geography

For the most part, blood eagle is a rather ordinary wastebone. It resembles a huge bird of prey's skull, hence the 'eagle' part of its name. However, it is unique in its coloration, which is a deep red-orange, far more than other wastebones. This coloration is not natural, but rather is caused by a thin layer of rust that totally coats the wastebone. This red rust coating is caused by the wastebone's inhabitants: rust buzzards.

Fauna & Flora

Blood eagle is by far the Waste's largest rust buzzard colony. These large flying insectoid creatures, close cousins of the rust monster, have a very unique diet: fresh rust. This makes them quite an annoyance to Barony Co., as Rails are made up entirely of metal. Because blood eagle is home to such a large population of these pests, no metal can be anywhere near it. For a miles long radius, any metal object brought near the colony will be sniffed out, and the possessor of such an object will find themselves mauled by a hungry swarm of rust buzzards.   Efforts have been made to take out the colony, but they have all been met with failure. Pure force is impossible, as the creatures merely retreat into their tunnels within the wastebone. And poison is obviously useless. Rust buzzards do eat each other's corpses like termites, due to their ferrous shell, but they only eat the shell. The poison that killed the original buzzard wouldn't make it into the shell, and would not poison any others. For the time being, the area around blood eagle is simply left Railless, and nobody goes near it.
