Sealstone Material in The Wild Cards | World Anvil

Sealstone

Sealstone is a rare metal that has the peculiar ability to neutralise Tarot abilities near it. As a solid plate, it will easily withstand most Tarot usage. When fully surrounding someone, it even fully seals their access to Tarot abilities . However, Tarot abilities may still slip through gaps, and openings will weaken or nullify the seal. This is why armors and prisons made of Sealstone are far from perfect.   While strong against Tarot abilities, Sealstone is quite malleable. This also makes it sensitive to sabotage, which is why generally Sealstone is placed inside walls or heavy metal. Its neutralising effect will stretch beyond its edges into the stone, preventing its destruction. The maximum range depends on how thick the Sealstone is, a thin layer barely stretching while a hand thick can protect several metres of stone.   Sealstone is used in prisons, carriages (either to protect those inside or those outside), and at Tarot training grounds. At The Academy, for example, Sealstone is used to protect the foundations of its bigger buildings. It also was used heavily in the construction of Grainstone Prison. Because of the large quantities required for an effective seal, most large prisons only have a few Sealstone rooms. In comparison, the amount used at The Academy could bankrupt even larger countries.
