The Boneyards

Deep, deep underground in every nation of the living world, there comes a moment when miners stop, put down their gear, and step gingerly. The air crackles with power, and it becomes clear that going further will take them elsewhere. The law stops at this boundary; food and shelter are scarce below; violence is commonplace. Though some nations claim to control areas of the boneyard beyond the threshold, most who journey beneath the earth know that even the strongest national armies struggle to maintain a foothold in the mining communities. Supply lines are easily disrupted, and even the best funded expeditions fall prey to the terrors of the depths. Even well garrisoned outposts change hands frequently.

Geography

The boneyards exist in the depths of each spire, and though the spires are not physically joined, an individual can navigate between each spire by using the winding paths of the boneyards. The boneyards are ill defined in terms of which physical laws do, and do not apply to them. Certainly space is different in the boneyards, and many experiences corpsers will tell you that time feels different beneath the surface as well.

Fauna & Flora

The primer is a book which only exists in the boneyards, and when taken above ground either disintegrates as with great age, or else becomes a bundle of blank pages.

Natural Resources

Godsblood is harvested from the corpses of the dead gods, in the depths of the boneyards. In recent years, fresh veins of godsblood have begun to run dry, and the resource is at a premium. In addition to godsblood, other valuable materials such as tin, gold and iron can be mined from the depths of the boneyards (but are perhaps more wisely mined from safer surface quarries).
