Mist Affliction
In the City of Dim, the mists are a result of industrialized manufacturing of artificial godsblood. The mists are a pollution which fill the streets.
Transmission & Vectors
Mist is airborne, but mostly contained to the city of Dim. Inhalation of mist is addictive.
Causes
Mist is produced by the Iron Church. It is a byproduct of the method used to create godsblood artificially.
Symptoms
Inhaling mist dulls pain. It makes memories fresher, and if inhaled in great quantities will make these memories seem to come to life in the form of sensory illusions. Prolonged exposure causes mutations, such as scales, tails, wings or horns, and eventually in all cases prolonged exposure will cause blindness. Mist is slightly basic and will bleach color from clothing.
Treatment
There is no treatment, but intermittent or mild exposure is not significant enough to cause damage.
Prognosis
Prolonged exposure causes mutations first. Eventually blindness. Severe cases, large quantities, or extreme addiction can cause death.
Sequela
Mutations, once contracted from mist addiction, are permanent. The body is irrevocably altered to accommodate the new mutations.
Affected Groups
Poor, homeless and addicts are at greatest risk. Those who cannot afford medical treatment for serious conditions often turn to inhaling mist to numb the pain.
Prevention
Citizens of Dim where goggles to preserve their eyesight, and wrap their faces in scarves, or wear surgical masks to prevent inhalation.
Epidemiology
The mist is affected by wind, and by the presence of fog. On windy days it might travel outside of the city, and on wet or foggy days it mixes with natural air conditions and may seem more prevalent.
Cultural Reception
Those in Dim have adjusted their lifestyle to accommodate the mists. Outside of dim, mutations caused by mist are seen as a sign of an addict, and are feared. Those with mutations may be looked down upon, chased out of town, or harassed.
