M'Hesh and N'Tosh - Celestial Lovers Myth in The Wandering Star: Lost and Alone | World Anvil

M'Hesh and N'Tosh - Celestial Lovers

Long ago, near the beginning of time, the star M'Hesh was alone, traveling through space in search of a companion. He was lonely, you see, and longed to share his flaming warmth with another, as all men do. Though he was small, his brightness hone for all to see. He displayed his dazzling halo, accentuated by fiery flares, to try and attract a mate. But to no avail.   He wandered hither and yon, sometimes coming near another star, but always that star shied away from him, frightened by his blinding display. He spotted a very large lady who was all puffed up, strutting her brilliance for all to see. Curious, M'Hesh began a cautious journey towards her. But before he could come close enough, the lady puffed up too much and exploded in a blinding display of fire and plasma, then began sucking it all back towards her. Even M'Hesh felt the pull of her black heart, and ran away in fear.   Now wary of those puffed up ladies, M'Hesh continued his quest. One small brown star, T'Cinder, attracted by M'Hesh's display, made her way slowly towards him. He rejoiced that he may have finally found another to be with. But T'Cinder was weak, and she died before his eyes as they drew near to each other. He cried for a thousand years, despairing that he would ever find a companion.   In darkness, bereft of all hope, M'Hesh thought that his search was over; that he was destined to be alone forever. And so he was surprised when a lovely pale lady approached him, her petite beauty radiated from her in a cloak of white light. She smiled at him and shyly approached. She, too, had been anguished by the loneliness of space, and she, too, had experienced the loss of another. So it was cautiously that the two drew near to each other.   They greeted each other tentatively, excited by having met another, but fearful that it would not last. N'Toch was her name, and she was a white dwarf star. Being a red dwarf himself, M'Hesh thought that they made a perfect couple. So happy was N'Tosh that she cried tears of joy, and those tears became ice that danced in a ring around them both, becoming a wide belt of asteroids that would forever glisten with the love they felt for each other.   M'Hesh and N'Tosh kissed, and the passion they felt glowed in a radiance that the whole universe could see. Never had there been a couple so perfectly matched, so completely in love. M'Hesh and N'Tosh made love, and had a dozen children, all of which surrounded them, feeding off of their passion for each other. They danced and pranced and played with each other, overjoyed to be a family and to not be alone.   Over time, their ninth daughter, D'Nesh, had children of her own. Her lovely cloudy body gave forth nine children who revolved around their mother with love and affection. M'Hesh and N'Tosh rejoiced that they had grandchildren to love and to nourish.  They gave D'Nesh the precious gift of Life, which D'Nesh gently laid on her firstborn son which she had named K'Gosh. K'Gosh cherished that gift and vowed to nurture it and help it grow, as did his mother and grandmother.   K'Gosh, ever one to keep his word, fostered that Life carefully. He made the occasional mistake in his care for it, as is apt to happen. But soon that Life evolved into an array of green and growing plants that covered K'Gosh and kept him warm. And then the Life further developed into all manner of crawling and slithering creatures that tickled K'Gosh, making him laugh. He laughed so hard that he wet himself, forming oceans and rivers that flowed across his body.   As time marched inevitable onward, those creatures became aware. They recognized K'Gosh as their father, D'Nesh as their grandmother, and M'Hesh and N'Tosh as the great grandparents that had given them Life. They reveled in their existence, thanking K'Gosh and D'Nesh, making temples and monuments to M'Hesh and N'Tosh. The whole family lived as one, feeding each other, nurturing each other, and loving each other in perfect harmony.   The Nesh, as the self-aware creatures call themselves, grew and flourished. They spread across the face of K'Gosh, building great cities and even greater temples. Eventually the found a way to visit the siblings of K'Gosh, and made new homes among them. They manufactured great artificial siblings and dedicated them to K'Gosh and D'Nesh. And they built wondrous ships to take them to other places altogether.    But never did they forget their father, K'Gosh, their grandmother D'Nesh, or their grandparents M'Hesh and N'Tosh.
