Pyran Belters

Pyran Belters are those belters who make their living and home in the Pyran system as asteroid belt miners. While they are not a large group, estimated at around ten thousand, they have developed a culture within the system that is distinct from the station inhabitants and from other belter communities. This is partially due to the scattered nature of the belters along with their regular check-ins at the stations and continued support of the government. They know that the taxes they pay support them in their endeavors and are proud to be a part of the system.   While a few are employees of some of the large corporations doing business in the Pyran system, most are independent. They will own one ship, or an extended family may have a couple of ships at their disposal. Co-ops have sprung up, allowing the belters to mine throughout the system, but have an outlet for their efforts that, in turn, supports the smaller freighters that can haul their minerals to a desirable outlet at reasonable prices.   While there has been some discussion of the belters uniting under a type of union or guild to help ensure their solidarity, the inherent independence of most has led to a lot of talk but very little action. Most stay busy with their desired occupation, mining, and those who are more interested in the straight business aspects tend to gravitate towards the corporations. This allows at least some of the miners to have a foothold or voice within the large companies that can help when needed.   Pyran belters tend to work within a single quadrant, so become part of the family of the station they visit during cargo runs and other downtime. They will also be well known to the quadrant Protectorate forces, generally exchanging any information needed. Once every two years or so, there is a larger meeting at Tencholi Station station to exchange information and ensure they continue to be aligned with the government and provide good service.
