Hypokra Sea

"Every creature in the Vast should visit the Sea of Hypokra sometime in their life. It is one of the very few places where I was rendered speechless."
— Togmarius the Chronicler
The Hypokra Sea, named for its resemblance to the bodies of water found on the larger isls, is an anomaly of the Vein. Rather than flow along the edges of Strassia as it does every other isl, the Vein somehow filled the inner bowl formed by the isl and has almost no current within it at all. The Sea acts as a safe gateway to the strass cities along its shore and provides a home to several void creatures unknown until their discovery within the Sea.

Ecosystem

Several of the gentler species of void beast make their homes in the Sea for at least part of each cycle, but it is also home to a few creatures never seen anywhere else. It's extra rich in voc, and many entrepreneurs have sought licenses to build siphoners along its shores. But the native strass have vehemently denied such requests, fearing that taking power from the Sea would destroy what little fertile land Strassia has.
Rays of Light
One of the species unique to the Hypokra Sea are the astral rays. They swim throughout the Sea in groups ranging in size from half a dozen to over a hundred, and have displayed no aggressive behavior since their discovery. Twice a cycle, on the day of the Surge and the day exactly halfway through the cycle, they gather near the center of the Sea and dance. No one can explain why, or how they time it so perfectly. But no one can deny that the event is one of the most beautiful things in the Vast. The rays leap and dive in a pattern that scholars and rangers continue to study for an explanation. The strass believe that the rays dance to appease the Great Light so that it will continue giving life to the Sea. Others have come to believe this as well, as most who get a chance to see it view the dance as nothing short of a blessing.

Geography

The Hypokra Sea has a similar appearance to the large lakes found on some isls. However, the "water" is still part of the Vein and has the same red-violet glow that the rest of the Vein does. Unlike the rest of the Vein, there is little to no current in the Sea, leaving the surface eerily calm at times. Most of the Sea's shore consists of fertile rainforest, with some areas of hilly plains. The strass have settlements dotting the shore, ranging from small villages to their capital city, B'laq.
