The Stone Wedding / The Petrified Wedding

In southern Bulgaria, this refers to a stone formation. The legend reports that it started with a wedding at that exact spot between a young couple. The wind blew the veil of the bride, and everyone was astonished to how beautiful the bride was. The father of the groom felt jealous at the son for marrying such a beautiful woman. Nature decided to punish the wedding party for the father's impure thoughts and turned everyone to stone, except the son. He cried and begged to suffer the same fate as his bride, but to no avail. When it rains in the spot, locals say that it is the tears of the groom still mourning his lost love.
