Slavs & Avars
This group is made up of two ethnic groups from the east. The origins of the Avars are relatively unknown but believed to be of Turkic (Oghuric) tribal descent. They were a Steppes people. The Slavs seem to appear from the Steppes region now controlled by Russia. They have allied in this case with the Avars into a loose but friendly group. They live together, fight together and are slowly and steadily taking over eastern Europe.
They are a constant threat to Austria, as the lowlands and the Danube are a perfect access point into western Europe. Many agents, raiding parties and large war parties regularly cross over the border.
Structure
The Avars and Slavs are ruled by a a Khan (King), who has a number of elite warriors under his control. They enforce his will, and generally have a good number of client tribes under their control. They are at this point semi-nomadic, with a few small towns & cities used for rest, storage and food & armament production.
Culture
A grouping of semi-nomadic peoples, they are originally Steppes people who control a number of mounted warbands. They actively act as mercenaries, though are not above pursuing their own conquering & plundering for their own sake.
They follow their own deities, and have a heavy militaristic society based around infantry and horse mounted cavalry.
Public Agenda
As a group they are expansionist in general and want to turn the rest of the world into client states to feed their need for war and plunder.
Assets
They have amassed a large fortune in silver & gold usually controlled by the elite, and have a large pool of well-bred horses to draw upon. A good number of their men have access to swords, axes, spears (sometimes used as lances), bows & arrows. A large amount of troops have also have access to shields of different kinds, and types of light armour (usually leather).
Many towns and small cities have been conquered or built by them, used as bases for further expansion. Some of these contain forts for protection. They can draw upon large amounts of infantry and cavalry.
