The Toska

January 12, 2024. The outside world is in ruins. Governments push all their spending towards war and protection for the rich without second thoughts to the people below. Some seek to escape, others resign themselves to a life of petty crime. A few hope for a better life, but find themself in a world that's hardly better: The Toska.   An ice-filled wasteland that can leave even its strongest inhabitants psychologically damaged. A few vermin and hardy plants serve as primary food sources, but since they are few and far between those that live in the Toska are often scrawny and malnourished. They bear the harsh toughness of survivors and let the harsh polar wind blow over bare skin without a flinch. Here, everyone is equal and free from oppressive government. However, not everyone who lives in the Toska was born there, and nobody comes or stays willingly.   Nobody knows what brings people here. Some find it in dreams and wake up in the snow the next day, others find mysterious portals to the Toska and can't find the way back out. North and her group are kind enough to newcomers, but she has one rule that must never be broken: don't go out at night. It's either follow her, or face the vicious entities that awaken in the dark. You run the risk of having your insides turned to dust by a smoke spirit or being captured by Curie's lackeys for use in twisted "science" experiments.   Sure, there's technically a choice, but Orion forbid you choose anything other than North's cautious ways. Who knows what might happen?
