Volkel Air Base

Volkel Air Base used to be a military airport, home to two fighter squadrons. As technological downfall began, the government decided to consolidate their military forces. With the threat of the water, planes were first moved from Leeuwarden to Volkel. When the government started to lose influence and found out a massive hurricane was coming, one of their last acts was moving all available resources to a secret base elsewhere.   By the time the fighter jet squadrons were ready to move out, however, a tornado struck. The pilots were forced to abandon their planes and hide in the hangars. When the tornado had passed, most of the planes had been destroyed. Following orders, the soldiers set fire to the wreckage and the remaining hangars, then left by truck towards their final destination.   Since then, nature has started overgrowing the two runways and the hangars, some of which have collapsed over the years. The remaining barbed wire makes entering the grounds tricky, and with all resources seemingly destroyed decades ago, Collectors see no point in visiting the Air Base. The only life remaining is wildlife. According to some, a pack of wolves made one of the collapsed hangars their home a decade ago.   There are also rumours about hidden caches in hangar floors, but most treasure seekers never return, which usually is blamed on the wolves. Some tell ghost stories, talk about raiders, or remaining soldiers that hide nearby and kill any intruders. Whatever the truth, nobody knows why the former Air Base is dangerous, and few care to find out.
