Syzygy Festival Tradition / Ritual in The Techno-Magocracy of the Dolezar | World Anvil

Syzygy Festival (/ˈsɪzɪdʒi/ SIZ-ih-jee)

The Syzygy Festival is a longstanding celebration over the colonization of the system. The festival occurs when the seven plants of Mozoroi all form a line with Saliet at one end and Mozo (the system's star) at the opposite end. The festival first came about when the first proper settlement of Matriet (the most difficult to settle planet) were established. At the same time, the seven planets and their host star lined up in a syzygy. A meme essentially developed with people associated the syzygy with commemorating the settling of the system. After three system wide grassroot celebrations occurred in the following syzygies, the system government approved turning the ad-hoc festival into a formal holiday and national celebration.

Execution

The general pattern with the Syzygy Festival is that it is a system wide party. During the festival, parades are common and many leisure districts or public areas get swarmed as citizens of all stripes head out to party.

Components and tools

It is common for symbols of Mozoroi system (such as the system flag, and Tech Cult symbols for the planets and Mozo) and effigies of the planets and Mozo to be plastered across buildings, knickknacks and other various assorted goods used during the festival.

Observance

The festival occurs when at least four of the planets and Mozo are in syzygy (to account for the general rarity of total system syzygy). The festival lasts for three days at the least (the day of, before and after the syzygy), though it is quite common for the festival to last eight days (one day for each planet and one for Mozo). The precise length of the festival is generally left up to the local governments, with the three day minimum and eight day maximum being the limits set by the system government (though these were seen in the grassroots celebrations).
