Neural-Linked Typewriter

One of the rarest but highly prestigious writing implements amongst the techmages of the Mozoroi system, a neural-linked typewriter allows a mage to write down large texts very quickly and easily. As the name implies, a neural-linked typewriter is essentially a dedicated writing tool that is controlled by one's thoughts (as one will have a mental link to the device). Some mages integrate their neural-linked typewriter into a larger computer (such as the Nimikon neural-linked computer model), so as to get the benefits of both systems at once. Others use a dedicated typewriter (such as a small, personal model like the Atronus model) which is not linked to any computer network. Such models are used for private writing, or for mages who must keep confidential information secret and prefer to have their typewriter not part of a network.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

There are three major components to a neural-linked typewriter: the neural implant in the user, a connecting cable that links the implant to the actual device, and the typewriter itself. For a simple example, I will focus on a dedicated, private typewriter model. For such a model, there will typically be a connecting port for the cable, an internal OS for typing (think of a Microsoft Documents equivalent which also contains a neural) on a hard drive and various ports for data storage. The absolute essential components are the neural implant (some variant of a mind-impulse reader), the connective cable and a hard drive with the capability of reading/translating information from the neural implant into understandable commands for the typewriter.

Significance

Due to their rarity and host of specialized knowledge needed to make and maintain them, neural-linked typewriters are regarded amongst the mage class of Mozoroi as a status symbol. Neural links themselves are seen as a right of passage into the upper echelons of the mage hierarchy and the ownership of devices that rely on a neural link further showcase a mage's influence and/or skill regarding the technology.

Neural-linked typewriters are very rare, as they require several high technology components and implants in order to function properly. Maintenance of such devices is also delicate and expensive, further increasing the rarity of the device. By and large, only techmages have access to neural-linked typewriters and even among them, typically only higher ranked mages are able to gather the requisite resources or influence needed to acquire and maintain them.
