Menathon Station

Menathon Station is an former void station (an artificial habitat or other station that is not bound to the orbit of a particular planet) that has since fallen into the gravitational influence of Saliet, the largest planet in the Mozoroi system. The station has long been abandoned, as very few people are aware of what exactly happened to cause the station to lose its population and the station itself has developed a reputation for being a place to avoid at all costs.   Since the station has been put under a no-go zone, many theories about what happened to the station are abound, from disease to madness to government conspiracy and so on. Furthermore, the station is believed to be a haunted place, home to the spirits of the dead. Since Menathon Station has drifted into Saliet's gravity well, many fear that the spirits trapped in the station could attempt to leave it for new places to inhabit.

History

Before Menathon Station became a no-go zone, the station was much like any other. It hosted a population capable of general self-sufficiency in the day to day and was otherwise the Mozoroi equivalent of a simple small town. Then a disease struck Menathon. However, as the station rarely sent out messages to the wider system, the exact nature of the illness remains unknown. What is known is that a large chunk of the people living on Menathon contracted the disease and either died from it or from the following chaos. The station's people were not able to treat the disease and were quite far from any of the major population centers or trade lanes to get swift aid. The aid sent in response to their calls for help took two months to gather and reach the isolated station. By that point, the station's populace had appeared to descend into anarchy and violence broke out.   The majority of what happened to the aid squads has been placed under strict confidentiality seals by order of the Archon but a few details are known (or at least believed by the wider public). When the aid squads went onto the station, they couldn't communicate with their ships due to some issue with their radios. As such, the ship crews did not know what the aid squads went through until they returned to the aid ships. For reasons unknown, only a fraction of the aid squads that went into the station returned to the aid ships. The surviving aid squads were believed to be mentally broken and physically wounded. The leader of the aid effort ordered a withdrawal and communicated what findings they had gotten from the surviving aid squads directly to the Archon. Following this, Menathon Station was declared to be a no-go zone with an interdiction zone surrounding the station to keep looters away. As the years passed, the interdiction zone ceased to be maintained but the station remains a no-go zone. The station developed many superstitions regarding it as it remained abandoned and off-limits.
