The Emerald Hills

Just south and east of Verlona lies a beautiful forest. During the spring and summer months it is easy to see how it gets its name as the treetops converge in a massive sea of green. As fall sets in the leaves change color and the canopy is awash in yellows, oranges, reds and browns. The forest covers massive rolling hills with many ravines and caves. The northern end of the forest goes almost all the way to the coast.

Geography

Rolling hills give way to steep cliff faces. The views from the top of these hills are astounding as in some areas you are able to see for miles. Between the hills are valleys or ravines and many caves can be found here. There are 2 small lakes in the forest both towards the southern end.

Fauna & Flora

Trees of all kinds can be found here, as well as many kinds of wildflowers growing in patches on the forest floor. There are at least 4 kinds of edible berries that can be found. The animals are all that can be expected of a forest. Owls birds and bats all claim the sky. The ground has everything from mice and weasels to bears and several stranger beasts. At least one Manticore calls the forest home. If you are lucky (or unlucky as it may be) looking out from a tall hill you may see one of the two dragons in flight.

Natural Resources

Many good kinds of lumber can be obtained from the forest, and the people of Verlona good about taking it. They rotate the place they are harvesting and replant where they took from last. The city also keeps several druids on retainer to help maintain the balance of the forest. There are many game animals in the forest that are good for hunting like rabbits, deer and turkey.
