Mochilian (Dragonborn)

The mochilians predate the histories of men, even before the dragons overthrew the celestial court. They were the first children of the dragons, and embody all that the dragons value.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Saurian humanoids; scaled hide, clawed digits

Additional Information

Social Structure

All mochilians serve the dragons' will in one way or another.

Facial characteristics

Mochilian have elongated snouts, though not as pronounced as their draconic cousins. Females have larger brow ridges and shorter teeth than the males.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Wherever there are cities of men, there are mochilians to serve the dragons' will.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Prior to adulthood, each mochilian is given a placeholder name, typically one that reflects the circumstances of their birth or early childhood. Upon completing their adulthood ritual a mochilian chooses a name for themselves that holds significance for them, whether it is the name of a revered ancestor, a word in the draconic language, etc.

Gender Ideals

Mochilians have always found the concept of gender roles baffling. Why should a people desire to segregate half of their able-bodied population from serving in the military or working laborious jobs?

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Though each mochilian clan derives its identity from its service to the dragons, individual members often strive to distinguish themselves through deeds and accomplishments, venturing off on lives full of adventure and discovery. Though these wanderers often do not return alive, such adventurousness is typically encouraged as 1) it weeds out the weaklings from the breeding pool and 2) those individuals who do survive are more likely to bring fame and fortune upon return than shame and dishonor.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Mochilians as a race were created to serve the dragons as soldiers and laborers, and as the backbone of the Church. Their inherent sense of purpose lends to them a certain arrogance over the lesser, "aimless" races of Vecrona.
