The Zoat, a species of large housefly-like sapients, are excellent climbers and build their homes high among the trees. They utilize the height of the trees to improve their natural ability to communicate with each other through radio waves.

Purpose / Function

Many predators lurk across Pritvy. The Zoat of the area have adapted to this by building their dwellings up in the tree-tops. Additionally, this height enhances their natural ability to communicate with each other through radio waves. In order to create a larger network of social communication, Zoat tree houses are generally fairly far apart.

Some Zoat have started information businesses, passing along messages for interested parties. Zoat transmissions are very difficult to decipher, even if someone can isolate their frequency. Many Zoat tree houses are part of secret information networks, offering their services to a multitude of espionage agents and agencies. Some say the Zoat are the most well-informed species on the planet.

Some industrious Zoat have installed radio towers atop their trees to extend the range of their communications.

Architecture

Zoat tree houses are generally constructed with scrap materials. They tend to build multiple rooms around the top of the tree; a few sleeping quarters and a larger feeding room. Zoat can climb without issue, so the rooms are not connected through traditional means. Unless you can climb like a Zoat, you're going to have a hard time getting within and using a Zoat tree house.

History

The Zoat on Pritvy were one of the many interstellar species who found themselves trapped upon the planet when the travel gate exploded. Many Zoat managed to survive the apocalypse war and have spread across the planet, aided by their quick reproduction cycle. Zoat tree houses have been being built since they began inhabiting the rejuvenated surface of Pritvy. Since then, many have been abandoned, dotting trees across the land. Some creatures have adapted these abandoned tree houses into dwellings of their own; primarily birds.
