Nocturnals/Cave Dwellers
Nocturnals (also called Nocturns and Cave Dwellers) are giant, fuzzy, bat-like creatures. Technically, they are considered dragons, but they are so different that some, if not most Nocturnisums (Cave Dweller scientists) consider them to be their own species.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Nocturnals have four limbs and two huge wings (about three times the size of their body). They are normally gray, with copper, red, or orange fur on their backs, top of tail and top of head. Cannot see in daylight so almost always stay in caves. They have a stinger on the end of their tails (kind of like a stingray).
Genetics and Reproduction
They reproduce like dragons (mating and laying eggs). Nocturn couples mate for life and never leave each other. In a pack situation, the Nocturns over the mating age that doesn't have a spouse, are looked down upon. After a couple mate, an egg develops inside the female for 5 months and then grows the baby inside an egg for an extra 10 months.
Growth Rate & Stages
By 3 years, they can already fly and speak normally. By age 8, they will be expected to find a mate and have babies. By age 50, they are considered, elders.
Ecology and Habitats
The Nocturns live in caves in groups of 5-20 dragons. They often sleep through the day, hanging on cave ceilings. Then, once it's night, the Nocturns without babies under 5 go out and hunt for themselves and the rest of the pack.
Dietary Needs and Habits
They eat big cave bugs, small large rodents, and small livestock.
Biological Cycle
They stay in their caves longer in the colder seasons.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
People living in the mountain ranges often tame them and use them for transportation (ex. Quarry and Penny). Some can even have telepathic bonds, but this has only been recorded twice.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
They have heightened hearing and echolocation.
Lifespan
100 years.
Conservation Status
These creatures are not in danger. Some are preyed on by giant cave spiders, but Nocturns had a steady population and will not be going extinct for a very long time.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
They can have rare markings on their gray scales, such as stripes, spots, or blobs of color.
